The term "new age" is relatively new. The beliefs and practices that are the new age movement are old. Basically, Eastern religions repackaged for Western, "Christian" consumption

We are still transitioning from the age of Pisces to the age of Aquarius. By most accounts, the transition will not be complete for at leat another 5 years or so (2012 according to the Mayan calendar).

Well it's a broad term that covers alot of areas. Another word for New Age is occult since a lot of the ideas derive from it.

I do not know why they call it new age since those beliefs been there for thousands of years.

not sure it is outdated, it tries to stay ahead of the pack
we could call it either " Old Age"
or
"New and Improved Age"
