Man's way is not God's way.
Jesus made himself as a sacrifice acceptable to God the Father. If he did not die on the cross, there will be no forgiveness of sin. Jesus gave up his life on the cross so that everyone might live.

I think the complete teachings of Christ are the impact. If you become familiar with what he actually taught it is quite compelling. He taught us for instance, to love God and each other and to stop serving ourselves and start serving others.
He taught us that the Father is attainable through faith, and that forgiveness is an act of grace that we may receive even though we can not earn it or purchase it.

He taught us to put away revenge, and to correct evil by turning away from it while being reconciled to God and others through confession and forgiveness, rather than to continue evil by violence and self service.

His death on the cross convicts all society, and His resurrection proves that good can overcome, and that there is a higher purpose.

So while his death is a very significant sacrifice, His resurrection is far more significant, but ultimately it is His teachings that are important because through his Way we may be redeemed, and without it we shall certainly perish.

The death on the cross was not a unique event, many died on crosses.

His innocence and goodness made the cross a symbol of particularly unjust and gruesome testimony to what kind of people we are without God.

His resurrection proved that God provides us access to Himself and to Heaven, but only if we follow the right Way to get there.

Any religion that dances in the street at the murder of the unarmed is certainly not following the God who forgives and loves, and can not be on the right Way.

He needed to die so that he could be resurrected again.

This is the same story as all of the other virgin birth/death/resurrection fables.

Osiris, Tammuz, Dionysus, Attis, Adonis and others all did this too. Not to take away from the good and wise teachings of Jesus - but why gild the lily with some obviously plagiarized tale? I think it waters down Jesus' message.

No, Christianity would not exist if Christ hadn't died and risen.

The man named Jesus would have been just another man claiming to be the messiah.

There were many false prophets back then...that's one of the reasons why so many did not believe in Jesus.

Would Christianity have the same impact on the world if John and Paul werent pandering it out like a Ferrari?

Of course not.
Jesus was one of about 30 Jewish men claiming to be the Messiah, but he was the only one whom the Roman Empire saw as a political threat, which is why he was crucified.
On the other hand, the other 29 men were left alone, and we have never heard of them, which means that if Jesus would have not been crucified he would have lived his life as some anonymous reform rabbi.

Maybe a different symbol other than the cross, I mean, much of Christ's suffering was in the olive garden, and I guess, if He died there, people might use an olive leaf for a symbol instead.

No. The whole Christian belief is on teh basis of having Jesus who died on the cross to forgive sins.
Other religions believe and read much of the Christian Bible's old testement to this day.

Jesus may be a fictional character. Whether he actually died on a cross or not is irrelevant to Christianity. What matters, is that people think he did.

No, because then no Christian could talk about how Christ saved them from orginal sin. There are hypocritical Christians who believe that because they've been baptized they can sin any which way they want. They have no accountability for themselves or their lives. Without Christ, everyone would be Muslim or Jewish.
