it is both, it shows what has happened and what will happen at the end of this age. Christians are not to be dismayed or fooled, that is the reasoning behind the prophesy, as I believe.

The Book of Revelation is fantastic. It covers eons of time,
and then it zooms in like a camera lens to the end times.
Do you know it actually tells you what happened and where you were BEFORE Adam and Eve were formed? Yep, goes all the way back to before man was made flesh. In Chapter one, verse 10 is the most important verse in the whole book. Unless you understand that verse, you won't understand any of the rest of it.
The verse explains that John (not the church in a rapture), just John was taken in the Spirit to the Lords Day so that God could show him what would occur. The Lords Day is the time Jesus returns and we remain on Earth for a 1000 year period. So to understand the Book of Rev., you need to understand from what perspective and time-point John is in when he tells what he sees.
He's taken from AD96 all the way to future of where we are now,
to the day Jesus returns. So the answer is, past, present, and certainly future is covered in Revelation. Never ever let anyone tell you you don't have to understand this Book in the Bible. Some say you don't, because you'll be raptured out before it takes place, but thats not true according to the Bible. Nobody is going to be taken anywhere. Some think that when God told John to "come up hither" that means the Church, but thats dumb.
Its very clear, he was talking to one guy, not the Church. He said to John come up hither, and I will show THEE (singular) not I will show THEM or the Church. Be very careful what you listen to.
There are alot of Revelation goofballs out there.

What has happened. Much like the Book of Daniel, which were presented as books of prophecy, the fact is, they were literally nothing more than war propaganda meant to be used in the context of the cultural battles being fought in the day.
Emperor Nero was the beast who's number was 666.

Good luck if you can decode it. It was written intentionally vague so that fundies can scare people about the end of the world.
The world has been here a long time, now. People have been talking about the "end" since the beginning.

Its Gods plan for us. God is in control and he wants us to know that. He wants to keep us looking to him for answers. Trust and wait. God has the answers not us.

Its a collection of bullsh!t written by superstitious idiots in the distant past... and has been mistranslated besides.
You will find absolutely NOTHING of relevance in there, so I suggest you put it from your mind completely and ignore all the retards around here who tell you otherwise.
