I moved her to a toddler bed at 20 months because she was constantly trying to climb out of the crib with the rails up. If she fell out of the crib she may have been seriously injured. The toddler bed is much lower than the crib.

I moved both of my older daughters out of their cribs and into a toddler bed when they were 18 months. My first started climbing out of her crib so we figured it was probably time. With my second we had just moved and were going to be having a baby a couple of months later, so we decided it would help prevent jealousy to do it early and use the new house as an excuse. Although I must warn you it took them both a month or so to get used to the change and sleep through the night.

I have always been told my others to wait till your child climbs out of the crib before you move them. I did this and would suggest tp everyone. My child would not sleep unless he was in his crib. When he started crawling out of it bought a tent that went over it. That lasted till he figured out how to put his hand outside the rails and unzip it. Once he did this it was over. No more full night sleep for me. He still wont sleep in a toddler bed he has to sleep in my bed. HATE IT. Love it when I want to cuddle him and miss him being a baby, but hate it when me and Daddy wanna night alone. So I suggest leaving the child in the crib till you just cant anymore.

My son was 15 months, but it's recommended from children 18 months and above. My son hated the crib and never slept on it, He slept in his playpen and then just wanted to pass out on the floor, that isn't right so we got him a bed! A big boy bed actually. It's a twin bed, It's better to get one that a toddler bed, you are just wasting your money

When a child can climb out of their crib or looks big enough to do so you should move them. You can buy a rail to go ont the side of the bed so that the baby can't fall out of bed.

When my son was about almost three. I knew it was time to move him when he would move around during sleeping and his legs had to hang out the side of the crib for him to be comfortable. My husband took him to McDonald's and I took down his crib and put up his "big boy bed" while he was gone. When they got back, he went into his room and came running out saying, "Mama, were my "kib" (crib)?" We just made a real big deal about his "big boy bed", and he was alright with it. It was the fall before he turned 3 in December.

My son's day care center stops putting kids into cribs at age 18 months. So we decided to follow suit, before he started getting the idea of hopping out of the crib (and he was getting ready to think about it - he's real active). Plus we try to echo what they do on things like this, and they do the same for us by trying to echo what we do.

My son was right about 2 years old, and we moved him to a twin size bed because I was pregnant with our daughter.

He didn't like it at first, but then he fell asleep in the living room one day and I was able to lay him down in his new bed without waking him, so he slept in it without realizing it. When he woke up he realized he had, and I made a big deal about how proud I was, and how everything was fine.

We also put Elmo sheets on the bed to help get him excited. Didn't buy a bed rail, but lined up an old comforter, and a bean bag chair along the side in case he fell off. Never had a problem after that!

It all depends on the child. If they are climbers, and you are afraid they will fall and injure themselves, then that would be a good reason. I put my children in a toddler bed when they started walking, they did not try climbing out. So, depending on what your child does, it is up to you. Good luck!
