I like the Perreti [sp] books that visualize a spiritual world.
I lost a 9 year-old beautiful daughter named Sarah. Sarah had cerebral palsy. She could not talk, feed herself, or walk. However, she could smile the happiest smile, and laugh with such purity and depth, that it would warm your soul with joy.
Often, I would dream about my family and Sarah. When I dreamt, I would attempt to imagine what Sarah would have been like if she were not handicapped. I never could do it. Sarah was always in the wheel chair and always acted the same.
Yet, the same evening she passed away, when she consumed my mind as I slept, and in my dreams since, Sarah is normal. I cannot dream her back into her wheel chair. In my dreams and thoughts, Sarah walks, she runs, she talks, and she plays. I cannot explain it.
Whether they are spiritual guides, guardian angels, the holy ghost, matters not to me. I cannot prove it, I can explain it, God exists.

well in the African Diaspora's traditions their is a belief about this. Your Eggun or Ancestors are all part of this gene pool in the after life. They are a unit or incarnate spirits who once walked this earth and who will continue aiding you if you tend to them. This is why they give offering to them in traditional cultural foods/drinks. Or in some cases they even cook a favorite meal for their known relatives.
In the Kardecian practice of spiritism and the Caribbean version known as Espiritismo, their is also another belief about spirit guides. When you are born you are assigned spirit guides and aides by your creator. He places these aides/guides in your life whether you acknowledge them or not. Sometimes they are spirits that have walked this earth. Lower Spirits and sometimes they are spirits that were created spirits and never had an earthly body. (ex:Angels, guardian Angel) SO your grandmother, or deceased Nephew could be you spirit guide. But some of us have guides that are from whole other walks of life. I have a gypsy for the Mediterranean area, and I am puerto Rican. I know some who have Nuns or Africans and they may not even be catholic or Black. So it just depends on the person. No matter your guide always pray for them, ask the Creator to give them light and progression and to help them help you.

There doesn't appear to be any hard and fast rule regarding spirit guides. I have had one human (American Indian) guide for some time now, and three animal guides: Cat -a long dead family pet- Bear and Moose, who come and go. Every once in awhile a family member crops up and stays a little while. I believe you will find different people have similar experiences but with only minor differences.

Well. On my neck of the words we do not refer to a guiding spirit.
There are initiations in which atleast one spiritual force is placed on your head to guide you at all times. That force will protect you in the name of God. (Just in case, Jesus is not my God but i think you already know that lol)
There are sometimes two it is all dependent on the reading that is received.
And as for our ancestors, we call them Egungun. There is another intiation in which atleast one of your ancestors are placed on your head as well to protect you. So it is kind of the same i guess.
But a word of advice. Do not pray to have a realative very close to who has passed on, be your guiding spirit, it is ther worst thing that could happen. Reason being, their love for you never dies and the moment they see that you are in some kind of trouble that is taking a serious toll on your life whatever it may be, their first instinct is to take you to be with them. By that i mean that your life will be ended. But to them it will not be killing you but protecting you form whatever is trying to harm you.
When you think about it, the saying love you too death is true.

I have never personally had that happen, but yes, it is the same thing. I know others who's spirit guides are deceased family members. (Most of my ancestors were drunks... wouldn't trust em anyway lol)

My spirit guides are mostly animals, i have a stronger connection to animals than humans because of the way humans treat each other, and the way they treat me. In my honest opinion animals are closer to the spirit realm than humans, they live by thier heart and sixth sense, which humans rarely use. those assuming animals have no souls are heartless creatures, and ive heard in many cases they are the type to abuse animals because of said belief.

We all have guides/guardians.
Its up to the individual whether to acknowledge them or not.
Some guides were relatives & some are inner circle.(you knew them from previous lives)
Yes-relatives usually have ways of letting you know its them.
