"we got into Iraq, we cannot undo history -- even recent history -- by simply pulling out and leaving events to take their course in that strife-torn country. Whether or not we "stay the course," terrorists are certainly going to stay the course in Iraq and around the world.
Political spin may say that Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror, but the terrorists themselves quite obviously believe otherwise, as they converge on that country with lethal and suicidal resolve.
Whether we want to or not, we cannot unilaterally end the war with international terrorists. Giving the terrorists an epoch-making victory in Iraq would only shift the location where we must face them or succumb to them.
Abandoning Iraqi allies to their fate would ensure that other nations would think twice before becoming or remaining our allies. With a nuclear Iran looming on the horizon, we are going to need all the allies we can get."

Greg r, I am too young for Vietnam, but I have studied the conflict with great interest. Vietnam was such a disaster because lack of political support at home removed any resolve of this country's leaders to do what was necessary, much as seems to be the case today.
Maybe it can be argued that we did not belong in Vietnam, but our presence in the Middle East is absolutely necessary.

Very good. We cannot abandon the people of Iraq who were counting on us. We cannot underestimate our enemy...the insurgents. We cannot change what was started. I want to know where all these people against the war now after bloodshed were when we talked of going into Iraq. I felt like a lone rider when I said to people that this was not a get in and get out type situation. Everyone was just so gung ho to fight any Arab enemy nation in response to 9/11 (I'm talking the American public in 2002). I got so many arguments that we had to help the Iraqi people from Saddam and we had to get the terrorists and Saddam was definitely sided with the terrorists, etc. But, we were going in to overthrow a government and that takes long long time especially under these circumstances. That country was in poor shape to begin with.
There have been 3000 or so US soldiers killed and 10,000 or so maimed. World War II had that in a day....but we didn't have the coverage on tv and internet like we do now.

We are not getting anything done in Iraq except train new terrorist in the art of guerrilla warfare. We are spending billions a year on this sink hole and getting nothing out of it. As for the dumb uninformed party line of the terrorist will follow us home, History says otherwise you think we are the only country to make this asinine move? Wrong! UK,France,Spain,USSR all have been where we are yet the terrorist didn't follow them home. Only when countries attack the middle east are they put under attack again or when they support a govt they are fighting with direct military support. A nuclear Iran is just another nuclear power just like Muslim Pakistan has the bomb but none of this sky is falling crap about them why is that a national grudge started in 1979 hostage situation that's why. it's time to grow up and start using your head for something other than a propaganda storage unit.

To late now, but you should not be in Iraq. To most Iraqis you are the terrorists, Things are far worse now than under saddam. And before it is over, now, there has to either be a civil war, or The Us has to acknowledge the real reason they are there, establish their 14 bases that they are building, put their replacement for Saddam in charge and prepare to control their Eastern Empire from there. WHAT ALLIES? Most countries figure the US is just replacing the USSR.

People don't look at the big picture...
I think we need a strong-hold in the Arab world and Iraq fits the bill.
Besides- isn't the world a little better considering Saddam isn't in power anymore? How many people (civilians) did he torture and murder? What about the ethnic cleansing? That guy is a madman even if people can't see that, even if removing him isn't all that we're there for. It's aparent to me that our targets are military based, not innocent men, women and children. Saddam didn't have that same philosophy.
Now, if I had said that in Iraq while Saddam was in power, I'd probably be 'missing' tomorrow and found in a mass grave sometime later.
I suppose people like Wanda assume that the media presents the true picture. The stocks hit a record high a week or two back...pay attention!

People are so wishy washy these days. Want instant gratification and don't want to pay for the freedom our fore fathers paid for with their sweat and blood. We live in a chicken society with no guts. I say nuke the bimbos and get it over with. I agree with you we cannot pull out and if they had untied our hands in Vietnam those people would be free today. I think it is time to stop running and stay the course. You just have so many cheeks to turn.

we would desire to stay to help the folk of Iraq organise a central authority which will make Iraq secure and robust. maximum Iraq's are grateful. My son became there for 9 months the tale he tells is plenty distinctive that whats on television.I additionally sense we would desire to invade and launch Iran with the intention to win this conflict, the quicker the greater desirable.

Sorry to make fun of this great nation but I have only one reqason.
Its the American way to invade a country, mess it up to the fullest extant, complain that the country had to take care of its own people and leave and watch a base ball game perhaps.

The war in Iraq has brough on nothing but misery, lowered the economy, and made us the laughingstock on the planet. Can't mean it was positive, can it?

Honey I don't think that we need to pull out of Iraq. We've had too many soldiers that are friends of ours come back from there saying how badly we are needed over there to question our involvement.
