My first lot were so up themselves and looked down on me and my family because we 'didn't fit' their genre ..... my second lot were lovely but they too had their moments ..... my previous mother-in-law was extremely insecure, but put on big show about how much she wasn't .....
after over 8 years of being alone - I now think that whatever I might think of future in-laws as people - I know that essentially they, and all the others, have one thing in common and if we put ourselves in their shoes we would be the same ..... that we sincerely and deeply love the person that is part of their family, the person that they will do anything to protect and defend .... they're not so different from any one of us really ......

I have the best Mother In Law in the world now! She's lovely and I have so much love and respect for her.

I paid my dues with my ex inlaws who were the most horrible people on the planet!

I don't currently have a mother-in-law, and from past experience, must say I am glad I don't.

My ex-husband's mother was a nightmare and a great part of our problem. Even now she bad mouths me to my children and won't speak to me. Sad, sad, sad. I felt I tried for 20 years to make her happy and sad to think it was to no avail.

Oh, well..

If anything, it has taught me to think about what kind of mother-in-law I want to be when my sons get married. :-)

some people will find this surprising, but HONESTLY

i like my mother in law

she can be a pain-in-the-neck at times, but then we all have our moments. it took me a while to work out what she is like and what kind of person she is, but once i passed that phase, it got much easier.

i know its rare, but shes does not interfere between me and my husband (not much anyway!) and doesnt see me an outsider in the family, thats what i like about her most.

after my marriage i migrated to england and sometimes i when i miss my mom i go and see my mother in law. she can be very loving and well shes a damn good cook !! i love her food and really wish i could cook like her.

all i can say is some are lucky :-)

She had a tough exterior, but a heart of gold. I didn't get enough time with my mother in law - she passed away 2 months ago of two kinds of cancer. I knew her for 3 years and have been married to her son for a year now. It's hard seeing and knowing how much my husband misses his mom.

I love my mother-in-law....Far, Far away....

My husband's family is wild, they are sweet to your face and backstabb you before the door closes all the way. I can't stand that...my family is crazy, but at least we are honest about it! I get along best with my mother-in-law when it is by phone.

I go nuts when they come to visit and stay with us. They don't care about my children's schedule, they take control over the TV and all they do is sit and watch it and expect me to wait on them hand and foot. They come to see the kids and their son, but hardly say a word to them and they NEVER take my kids out or do anything with them....no shopping or a movie or even a walk. But my kids are supposed to be happy when they come...the house is never clean enough and she spends the whole time sniffing....IT MAKES ME NUTS!!! Now, aren't you sorry you asked? lol :)
