First off I am a parent. It depends. Honestly, did you deserve it? Does it happen on a daily basis? Parents can do corporal punishment within limits. Are you bruised and bleeding? If so it went too far and yes it was abuse. Otherwise, I am guessing your probably a little hard headed like I was or like my son is. Sometimes it is the only way they have to really get your attention and make a point that you were in the wrong. There is no state in 50 that says striking a child is illegal. You call the police and not over the age of 18, they will take the report and that will be the end of it, unless it happens often, then there is a case.

ok so you obviously did something really bad to almost get kicked out but for some reason you dont say why.
is that because you know that whatever it was that you did was way out of line.
there is a big difference between abuse and punishment and if you dont tell us the full story we cant give you a straight and honest answer.

Yes, it is abuse! no one should put a hand on anyone like that, whether they are female or male and age. I don't know how old are you and I don't know what caused him to do that or if you did it first, but, still no one should never touch another person, if they have problems with that person they should go to the authorities or seek help.

that is a loaded Q - I hope he had a super good reason like you were doing something very very illegal - If not most defiantly yes - and even if you were being punished he is pushing it. You may want to talk to a school councilor or something about this - as those of us here only have a part of the story -- Good luck!

Does this happen often? I would talk to someone at school and tell them what is going on. You can always call the police and report what is happening. Have you tried to talk to your Mother about this as she was right there when it happened. Maybe she is not sure what to do about it either.

Your dad is abussive. Parents don't hit kids. Where is your mom? if she is around, tell her if not tell some one at school. Get help because you should not tolarate any kind of abuse. If you do then you will always end up in that situation.

Without knowing the whole story, I cannot give you an accurate answer.

You probably had it coming to you
lets hear the rest of the story where you did something wrong.

without your willingness to tell us "why" he was so angry...that is, the "what" of what caused his anger, no one here will be able to intelligently answer your question.

Example:

Did you attempt to stab a sibling with a knife?
Then, Yes...his behavior was appropriate.

Did you get a speeding ticket?
Then, No...his behavior was inappropriate.
