How are your monthly cycles? If they are heavy and painful then your uterous could be pushing against your kidneys as it is expanding.
I had a scan to see why my cycles were SO BAD, they scanned my kidneys too!
If you are really worried then please see a GP!!

You most likely have kidney stones! These end to give a sharp pain around the kidney/pelvis area.
One other possibility is that you have a sodium ion defficiency, are you drinking alot of water?! And is your urine a clear colour. This may be the cause, because if you have too much water, the tissue surrounding the nephron (a main part of your kidney) could be taking up too much water thus causing it to expand, and resulting on a pushing pain or in your case a shapr pain!
Also the menstrul cycles is a good point, but is rare in many cases.

ANY problems in this area should be followed up by your doctor as a priority.
I don't follow why no further action was taken following your Diabetes testing or was this an earlier presentation?
Most male Doctors will readily dismiss 'womens troubles' as not even existing so make sure you are being taken seriously. This sort of pain is hard to ignore.
In the meantime try Cranberry Juice as it contains a natural Antibiotic that can help ease any minor irritation. (Tastes like **** though!)

Sounds like you need a second opinion. It could be kidney stones, an infection, an allergic reaction to something that's affecting that area, or it could just be a muscle spasm. Either way, please get a second opinion as soon as possible...my daughter started having similar pains two years ago, turned out to be an allergic reaction to ibuprofen. It was so severe that it put her in the hospital for 10 days because her kidneys almost shut down. Fortunately, she's fine now, but it gave us quite a scare. Get that second opinion as soon as possible.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
