You dont use ZIP files, you can only unzip them... use Winzip to unzip them... theres also others for example, Winace... etc.
zip files are like folders except that you need a program to open them for you. People use zip files when they need to send multiple files, because you are not allowed to email folders to people.

"Winrar"
If you google "winrar" and download it
you'll be able to use zip, rar, and many other file types

winzip, winace, winrar, just go to download.com and search. If you have windows xp you already have a zip program.

Download WinRAR or WinZip, you can find both by searching for them on www.download.com they are free to download and use, limited features but enough for normal usage.
