The Darwinists say a common ancestor shared with lower primates and the Churchy folks say the Big Kahuna, God Himself.

It depends on if you take the Evolutionist or Creation route.

The Evolution premise is one that over millions of years, single celled bacteria evolved, changed and formed complex, multi-cellualar forms that eventually lead to homo-sapians.

This is a lot of cosmic mumbo-jumbo in my experience. Say you take a well made Swiss watch and took it apart. Then, put it in a box and let it sit and shake for a few million years. Do we actually believe the watch will eventually come back together and work? Not in a billion years!!! Yes, all the parts are made by a Master watch maker. But its only in the hands of a skilled craftsman, that they can be assembled into a working watch. (Every mechanical device needs to be in the right place and very precisely assembled huh?)

Now, (the much hated) "Creationist" can make their point. It took an intelligent designer to produce simple, diverse and complex life forms.

The Bible does not give specifics on exactly how humans were created. However, humans are very complex organisms and have many complex functions available to adapt to all kinds of change.

Here, Creationism bases its theme on... "If there is a created being, it is because they were created by a supremely intelligent being." Yes, humans can adapt to many extreme conditions as needed. (Ie: Can live in the coldest climates, tropical jungles, deserts and now venture into space) This took time for such things to come about, but intelligent men, (Scientists) can now clone various animal forms with a degree of success. However, are these clones going to be viable in 10, 50 or 1000 years? We have no idea!

In a nutshell, If mere humans can create complex tools and devices, (Ie: Advance transportation, communication devices and all these medical wonders) imagine what a "Superior Being" can do on a much larger scale?

Finally, the human race is still not smart enough to put down its weapons and create global peace, freedom and prosparity for all. We have the tools to do this. However, we lack the wisdom and desire to make that happen anytime soon.

Which camp are you in?

God. Whether by creation, or so-called intelligent design, which has been mis-represented in the media, and can be easily understood as God setting into motion life in an environment he knew would result in the advancment of life forms with the basic mechanics needed to allow complex structures - DNA, etc. If you look at all the basic building blocks, they have been so perfectly engineered in their form and functionality, you can come to only one solution. There has to be an intelligence behind it.
One more argument for ID. If not for a divine guiding hand, how does a person reconcile "evolution" with another favorite intellectual theory - chaos theory, which states that all complex, organized structures will devolve and break down over time into a chaotic state?
