I'd think motorized because it will "force" you to walk at a certain pace and not let one just poke along which would allow you to not get as good a workout.

I'd check into an elliptical. Less stress on the joints, more muscles exercised and less of a chance of shin splints.

motorized are always better, the manual ones don't seem to work that great. I have one and it is so nice. that way you can keep your speed up and get a real workout.

I'd say motorised because the teadmill will set the pace so you can't keep slowing down and giving up, like on a manual one. They're usually stiff to move aswell.(not always)

Very few people really use them. Go outside. Use a sidewalk. It is free and the scenery is better.
