Has anyone else heard that? Does that sound right? Seems awfully young to me, but is there any scripture I'm missing that could elaborate? Please don't give mean answers.:o]

I've always heard that myself.

We tend to forget something about historical figures. It has only been within the past 50 years or so that people are raising the age of maturity, whether for marriage, responsibility, or what have you. It's quite possible that your parents, grandparents, or great granparents were married at quite a young age when compared to today's standards. However it's completely normal for what's been happening since the beginning of man. When a female child began her periods, she was then a woman and elligible for marriage. This usually happens around age 9-14. Yet it wasn't simply based on the physical symptoms of adulthood, because throughout this history, society was built in a way that these young people were mentally mature as well. Completely different from what was then and what is now. Then it was common for a 9, 12 or 14 year old to marry and conceive, manage the household, take on responsibilities in the society, in the economy, in whatever type of government had been established... We compare it to today's standards and even 18 is considered extremely young to be married. Women are preferring these days to wait until their 30's to have children. 9, 12 and 14 year old minds are too pre-occupied with toys, games and "being a kid" to mature as they would have in the past.

My point through all of this is that we can't judge a past society based on current and modern practices. It makes no sense! To me anyways.

your reference as to what is right and what is wrong is scewed by a decaying society. Only 70 years ago 12 year olds were commonly married. All this attack on Mohammed is likewise foolishness. There are countrys still today where people younger than 12 get married.

Hate to say it but this is due to women valueing careers over family.

I beleave in many things women want but it seems to me in the quest for a job (how silly is that) many of the great things about being a woman were lost. Women let a small vocal minority steal the good things from them. Twelve is not an appropriate age to have a child today, but it is not a sin either. Unfortunately the church did not support these young ones as they should have and now we have careers over young life as well. are we decadent or what??

There is no scripture, but that's about right. Don't forget, in those days, you were engaged pretty much at birth. When you became a woman (bled for the first time) it was time to get married. Your life expectancy wasn't high so the earlier you could produce children, the better. This thinking went on for centuries. Mary was concidered a woman and was engaged to marry Joseph (who was most likely years older then she).

its all speculations really because the bible doesnt say how old mary is in the bible but then again no one really knew what it was like back then either. if mary was indeed anywhere between 12 and 18 then i would assume marriage was legal at that age range back then but the bible does mention the fact that joseph is a older man about the age of 20 or so but nothing beyond that.

i have heard many different sects of christianity say mary was 13 or 14 when she had jesus in her wromb but no one not even me knows how old she was but if she was that young then it is child molestation at best

Luke 11:27-28 And it got here to bypass, as he spake those issues, a definite woman of the corporation lifted up her voice, and pronounced unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. yet he pronounced, Yea relatively, blessed are they that pay attention the be attentive to God, and shop it. ******* it relatively is at once out of the stable previous Protestant mainstay, the KJV. i do no longer see the words "greater advantageous than that" everywhere in that passage -- much less that i'm by some ability greater blessed than Mary. Jesus is making specific that folk have their priorities at once: i.e., obeying God's commandments. Mary replaced into obedient to the father throughout her total existence. I, on the different hand, am a sinner who usually disobeys God. So I fail to verify how i ought to in all probability be greater blessed than Mary who replaced into preserved from the taint of unique sin from the 2d of her theory. i will handle your misquoting the Bible and/or failing to grant references. i'm an English substantial, and that i've got run into quite some undesirable scholarship in my time. yet this entire attempt of yours to chum as much as Catholics is as smarmy a pass as i've got seen recently. employing the Bible to greater your time table is repulsive and cheating, and that i advise you seek for God's forgiveness.
