I would like to know the time duration spent in getting visa in a situation like this. If principal applicant and three persons have gone to USA and there are one remaining person who are not issued the Visa because finger prints of one of the remaining person is being taken for verification. And what if10 and a half months have passed since finger prints are taken.

At this moment, you are trying to get something done in a critical time period in the USA.

Normally 10 1/2 months is a bit much. But, the US is currently being flooded with fingerprint/background checks of citizens that have been brought under homeland security umbrella. Over the next 4 years ( 2005-2009) over 300,000 truck drivers will be asked for their fingerprints, if they want a haz-mat endorcement on their CDL's.

This could be the reason for the delay, I would advise calling to check the status, if possible. I have heard of delays up to 9 months...just for the driver licence.

The Department of State usually can process fingerprints in less than 2 hours. If it has taken 10 months, there is obviously a problem that DoS is not telling you about.

More than likely, the person in question is from an arab speaking country. Am I right?

Lets say your relative's name is Bob Smith, and the American Government is looking for a suspected terrorist named Bob Smith, the Consulate or Embassy has to have a release from the Department of Justice, DHS, and many other agencies before it can release the visa.

Worst case scenario, it could take years before the Embassy receives the release.

I would contact a Congressman's or Senator's office and have them submit a Congressional inquiry to find out what the delay is.
