I would venture to say that at some point, there will be an apparent stale-mate, and both sides will come to the tables to talk.
I would like to see multi-state and party talks, held somewhere such as Geneva, Paris, or Istanbul, where a peace accord is developed.
I don't see this happening anytime soon. I predict that either the conflagration will spread to Iran, Syria, and Pakistan, or it will draw out long and painfully in Afghanistan.
NATO's best bet now is to make a deal with the devil, er, I mean the Russians, and push to destroy the Taliban once and for all. This will probably mean "giving" the Russians more control over areas such as Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine and other entities. This is NOT about to happen soon or easily.
Another possibility is to get more allies from smaller states such as Georgia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, to fight the enemy there. India might be enticed into assisting. We'd have to offer much aid in the form of grants, low cost loans, cooperative programs in agriculture, engineering, etc. Maybe we'd have to allow India to get more jobs formerly done by Americans and others.
This is war, and there will be no easy answers, and the solution will probably not be pleasing to all parties.
The possiblity of one or more parties using nuclear weapons is also not out of the question. Ugly, scary, but still an option.
Pray for peace. Act for it, today.

It depends on how commited NATO is. Potentially they have 1000s of tanks, fighter aircraft, helicopters etc.
Militarily they could smash the taliban and Pakistan to little bits for a thousand years.
But it comes down to politics. NATO is struggling to build even one more brigade sized combat team to use as a troubleshooter because most of the politicians of the NATO country see nothing to gain by putting their troops in harms way.

i choose for all the Taliban and extremists jailed or lifeless. that's mandatory that our troops/NATO stay in Afghanistan indefinitely. that's an fairly complicated issue which ought to be combated to avert nationwide protection hazards to our u . s . and the international. U.S. troops weren't in Afghanistan, nor Pakistan whilst 911 befell.

N A T O!!! They have more firepower and special operations who go into areas where a conventional army would be unable to do so, also the units pacify and make friends with the locals and help the sick and that way they are able to get more information
of where the terrorists are hiding. Been there, done that!!!!!!!!!!

Taliban already lost in 2001. All they can do is launch the odd attack, and the media will tell us that they're back and stronger than ever!

This war will be on going for the next twenty years at least.
And when it is over - it will without a doubt remain exactly like it was before.
Sorry about that.
