Might have to do with the suits of Tarot getting switched to something less heretical in the eyes of the church. (yeah i read davinci code and now i:m an expert lolz)

But let me make up a story for you that will be much nicer than truth.

Picture some artist drawing a woman naked and fixating on the breasts down to the top lines that form above the thighs of a woman (the y shaped crease) the top of a heart is the breasts, coming down into the cleavage, (perhaps the woman was in some kind of Victorian negligee for more cleavage) the shape of his favorite underwear simplified into a symbol could be that heart. Dudes like underwear, and chicks. And girls want love so guys buy fancy Victorian underwear for their girlfriends, its like a valentine... Am I ringing any bells? That heart is full of sexy curves. We dudes love that stuff.

Conclusion, its that shape cause a man drew it, if it was a woman it would be a circle like a wedding ring. ;P

PS.. Oh shoot, I think butts wearing sexy jeans make that same shape, though I prefer the front view usually. Oh yeah maybe some dude had a girl with a triangular face and a hairline kinda like male pattern baldness... or a boyfriend. Anyway, male symbol for love for sure.

because the shape of our heart is representing our heart (even though it doesn't look like that - bust a fist might feel more threatening than loving) - thus showing our love for that person/thing or whatever you are talking about. It is often said that we love with our hearts and not our brains, because sometimes love is just so illogical....

I've seen a turkey heart look in that shape

but there may be other reasons similar to phalic worship that the shape of the heart may be more about a blossoming and arousal
