As opposed to Arminians, Calvinists believe that God loved and chose His own. Christ died for those the Father loved, and the ones that "chose" Him, didn't really. Way different from Arminian beliefs of God knowing, but still giving us ability to choose Him (never could reconcile that one), Christ wiping out the sins of everyone but only the ones that choose Him go to Heaven (can't reconcile that one either), and the possibility of falling away from the faith.

Both are Christians. Should they get along if they are so far apart in how they got there?

I don't really think there are any out there that would actually call themselves Arminian -- for the most part its just a label used by theologians
