for hitting a student in the head, this happen at the special school i am volunteering at and i did report it . The boy started crying after the teacher did that to him, this class is a moderate mental handicap class, i seen this happen, and they teacher did this because the boy said i said i wanted chicken to the teacher aide and the teacher went over to the boy and said she didn't hear you and don't be talking to her like that. It was not bad how he was talking and felt so sorry for the boy and this class are all kinds that are ages 13 and up.
I am changing classes and going to help in a class with kids that all are in wheelchairs. I am going to try this out.

by the way you do not know what all goes on in a school and you don't know if the child is being teated good or bad or what is happening there.

first of all u need to tell someone, running to another classroom isnt going to help the situation. just b/c u cant see it going on doesnt mean everything is now all fine and dandy.

second, dont be preaching about "by the way you do not know what all goes on in a school and you don't know if the child is being teated good or bad or what is happening there." if u arent going to take the first step and report it.

that doesnt make u any better than the person that hit the kid. kinda like if u saw someone get killed, raped or beat up and just walk away thankful it wasnt u and never go to that room, alley or area again.

If you feel that the children are not being treated rite then you should get some sort of evedence and send it to the asb council and they will take it in to concideration I know how you feel as I was In a school for the disabled and I was more of a sister than a mother If you know what I mean And what I see going on there is a Person with attitude problems and the other person was in the wrong place at the wrong time so it is normal to see little fights hear and there but if carrying on then it should be taken on further .

I would have reported it to the school(principal), told the parents, and seen what they wanted to do. If they wanted to take it further, then I would suggest telling the school board immediately, and seen if there were any other witnesses. And if there was sufficient evidence, then maybe the parents would like to file a report to the police. I understand a teacher getting irritated, but if they cannot handle the everyday life of students and attitudes, then they are in the wrong career. Maybe some of the other students saw it, and can help further. Good luck!

You did the right thing by reporting it. Being a teacher does not give the right to hit someone in the head. Mentally challenged individuals are taught by example probably more so than other children. I applaud you in coming forward to report this. It's amazing how many others would have acted as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Thankyou!

hello
well first of all, if reporting it to the first person's in charge didn't help then i think you should try contact persons who have more power. u know those who are higher up in the department. u can also signal this to some outside authorities. because as u said this school is a special school. these children have enough problems as such and they really do not need traumatising experiences to catch up with their lot of problems. let me tell u that getting physical punishments is traumatic for a normal child so imagine for a child like them with special needs. thay have a harder time understanding our world and they need a lot help much more than all the other children. And try imagining this, if everyone reacted like u did, shifting classes so as to stay away from the problem, then to be honest these children are doomed. if no one reacts then they will never obtain the required help. try to make a difference and improve the childrens life, because i', sure that u didn't volunteer to work there just like that, u wanted to help. so give the apropriate help and it will be far mre rewarding than running away and avoiding problems. face them and u will feel a lot better and will not need to ask for answers on this site.
and yeah i meant no offence in whatever i said so dnt take it up the wrong way. good luck for your job

I have a special needs son and if I knew this I would be sooo.... pissed off. I would want someone telling me what was going on. Some kids don't know the different between right and wrong but the teacher sure should. My son will be going to school next month but I am really thinking about home schooling him because I don't know if I can trust anyone

Keep on going through the chain of command if you do not get any response just KEEP going go to the police if you do not get any help from the school! There is no way ever that a teacher should strike any child no matter what disablility or not. Good job on telling someone. Keep telling someone until something is done to correct the situtation.

If nothing was done to the teacher that hit the student, I would go over the head of whoever you first reported it to. Something like that does not need to be going on a this kind of school or any kind of school. I would have someone's job if they did that to my son.

You did the right hing by reporting the situation. Just make sure it was reporter to the right person and the proper paper work was filled out by you. It takes special people to be able to work with the mentally and physically disabled. I want to work in a home with disabled children when I finish nursing school. Bless your soul. You did right just avoid gossiping about the situation to other volunteers, employees, and friends.

i am not really sure what your position in the classroom actually is but in most situation any adult working with special needs children or adults on a regular basis is considered a mandated reporter. Which simply means that if you see or suspect ANY form abuse is taking place you MUST report it immediately to the proper agency or risk legal punishment yourself. Plus i personally could not imagine myself just looking the other way and running away from the situation. Who knows what else could be going on in that classroom and if no one reports who knows how far it could go...... In my opinion if you just walk away and do nothing you are just as much at fault as the person who actually hit the poor child.
