Lately I have seen so many people with the same kind of tattoo, its the thick black outline of a star or a few stars together, is this a new trend or does it actually mean something?

Ok, so what I am learning is that these stars do not signify anything in particular, only what the person who has them decide upon.

I just wondered because so many people have them, I stay in Spain but I have also seen so many people on the net in the UK including I think his name is Paolo Nitini, the Scottish singer, he has one on his arm.

I just wondered why?

The most common meaning of a star tattoo is as a Nautical symbol. It represents the North Star and a safe return to port (home). hope this helps

I Have a string of stars on my ankle fading in and out! Signifying the changes and boldness in my life! We have a saying in my family that "We all are like stars in the sky!" No star is the same from the next, so i just look at myself like that! I knew for a long time that a star would be one of my first tattoos! I have others also But I Love my stars!

A friend of mine who is a marine told me that a star is a symbol of protection. He has them tattooed on his shoulders. Back in the day when being gay wasn't the thing to do, butch females would get the tattoo on the inside of their wrists so they could cover it up with a watch during the day and at night they could take off the watch and other dykes would know. Just a version of one of the meanings that I have heard. Star tattoos are very commonly used in the gay world to denote homosexuality. They are often placed in a location that can be easily concealed. For example, one could have the star tattooed on his/her wrist, allowing them to hide it (with a watch or long-sleeved shirt) by day, and reveal it at night at the bar/club. The stars were originally used by sailors to help guide their way as they sailed through the night. They relied upon the stars to protect them and bring them home safely. A lot of soldiers get nautical stars for the same reason: protection. They symbolize protection, guidance, loyalty and honor. They can also symbolize prestige or a higher rank in the military. There are two meanings of the "STAR" tattoo. First is the protection and guidance meaning and second is being affiliated with the gay community. I know some people don't like the idea that the star can be affiliated with the gay community, but that is what the meaning is within many gay communities and I know of at least eight people who have them and got them for that meaning. Back in the day sailors would tattoo stars on them because they relied on the stars to take them home. So in that case the star would be a symbol of guidance. Now as time has passed the nautical stars represent the direction of one's life. If it's pointed upward they have a higher outlook on life and so on. The meaning of the star is to create your own path, but use the stars as a guide when you are lost or scared.

They are the new trend in tattoos. Butterflies were really trendy in the 90s and right now it's stars. They are several different designs, sizes and shapes though. Many people will get what's called a nautical star. The nautical star is a symbol of protection and guidance.

I drew my falling star tattoo myself, so I can honestly say no one has the one I have.

It completely depends - a lot of people (especially young people) are getting star tattoos simply because its "in" and then there are people who get them for a significant reason. I have a tattoo on my back with stars in it - I got it because my mom has a similar tattoo with a sun and smaller stars and I got the moon and stars because it was a mother - daughter thing that will always mean something to me and her.

A tattoo can mean what ever you want it to... my fiance and i just got matching star tattoos on our ribs. We got the stars because we will always be each others guiding stars, that and where we live we cant see stars so when we look at each other we will always see the stars. Point being a tattoo can mean anything you want and dont ever let anybody talk down on what you get because its personal.

Whilst many people have similar tattoos of stars, Im sure they signify different things to different people.

Personally, I have five stars on my stomach which make up the constellation of the Southern Cross, which features on the Australian flag. I got it because it reminds me of home (I live in the UK) and also because its used to navigate if you are lost (meaning I will never be lost because I can always find my way home)..
