Why not Scientology is based off one mans demented thoughts

Actually, with the way some Christians go on about it, you'd think they were already doing it. But there isn't any religious concepts in Harry Potter - no talk of God or Goddess, etc... so I guess they'd up worshipping Harry Potter or Dumbledor.

BUT! There is a school opening in Canada that is based off of the Hogwarts School of Wizardry in Harry Potter... but it's strictly for adults and is more like a college about the science of witchcraft than anything else. It does not, however, rely on Harry Potter books for anything other than the "School of Wizardry" itself. Wouldn't do them much good if they did.... all of the "spells" in those books are bogus anyway. LOL

probably not, since it's getting harder and harder to start a new religion (at least, a completely new religion not based on an existing one).

Religions generally start with various assertions of miraculous or extroadinary events, that get passed down either orally or in writing. There is too much evidence in existence nowadays from any event that happens; it wouldn't be possible to assert that Harry Potter was real, because there's so much evidence that he was thought up by JK Rowling for the purposes of entertainment.

That is the only reason I think a religion based on HP is unlikely.

It could happen. The Harry Potter books would then become a 7- tome holy scripture of the religion....

Nay. Its a rule that if a book gets adapted to a movie, it won't survive to become a religion.

Movies take away the imagination to cook up the strange stuff by showing you all the hollywoodish effects.. for a book to become a religion, you need more imagination and less visual

Thats why we see stuff like the Bible, the book of Mormon, Scientology etc..they didn't have any movies about them

Perhaps. I think it's more likely that a religion will form around the MacIntosh computer.

That first answer is hiliarious - why would we need to develop magic powers? The Bible is full of magic stories that aren't true, and there's a rather significant religion that formed around it.

Could do. The word itself 'religion' could be becoming extinct, even.

May Allah have mercy on us all

Peace
