I understand what you are saying. I think that in order for some people to believe in their chosen faith they must have others who believe as they do. After all no one likes to be wrong and if you were the only one then you might start thinking that you were incorrect in your assumptions. Fighting for ones belief, not defending it necessarily but spreading it become obsessive and compulsive. The winner is the one with the most toys (converts) you know. It would indeed be more appealing for any religion if they would just live their religions and let us all take note of that.

You probably mean religious, use your spell checker and add more credibility to your question. There are so many Christian Organization who do help the poor and needy year around, Feed The Children, is just one very good organization above reproach, the Salvation Army is another ethical and honest religious organization, they help people year around, they collect money for clothing and toys for families in need, you probably have noticed a shivering person standing in the cold with a large kettle in front of stores collecting money for the poor, Target has banned the Salvation Army in front of it's stores this Christmas and last Christmas too, no matter how much i like their merchandise I will not shop there ever again, they are cruel and heartless. Many religions, Christian, Jewish, etc. are doing great work in helping the poor.

Roughly 25% of the American public believes in an evil, punishing God. So these people will actually do anything to avoid being "punished" by the hand of God.
That's 75 million Americans we're talking about.
Another 25% believes God is nice, and we should help each other. These are the people most likely to help out, but it's all more related to their particular culture and the way they were raised.
Another 25% believe in a higher being, which means that if they help out the poor, they're only doing it out of the kindness of their heart.
And the last 25% doesn't even believe in God, which means that they probably don't care to help much since "nothing matters," you know what I mean?
Therefore, breaking down this way, although millions and millions of people out there DO help out the poor...
A vast majority doesn't.
And that's just America. The majority of the countries of the world don't have much means to help others since, well, THEY are the poor people that need the help.

Check what you say just because helping the poor doesn't sell papers doesn't mean people don't do it.
Governments sometimes try but people can become misinformed whether because the local people in power choose not to tell them or because they choose not to find help.
You also have to be aware most governments nowadays especially in the "western world" like short-terms gains so that they can remain in power rather then looking for a long-term goal as it may not get them many votes, one recent example would be Bush and his invasion in Iraq, the whole get rid of the evil dictator and his supposed WMD has backfired by tearing the country apart and now he is not even willing to sort it out effectively because the votes for his party matter as Americans care that there army is abroad and dying.
It's a sad world but these problems are not caused by faith it's all about power and greed and the people who are never satisfied.

You are right. This is what religion is about. Millions and millions of 'religious' people do this from all religions. How many people in the world are fighting? Definitely not the majority but the media makes us think there is nothing happening in the world other than fighting.
There are still very compassionate, loving, charitable, patient, tolerant, forgiving, cheerful, polite, supportive, peaceful, fair people who are so because they are 'religious' regardless what their religion is.
May Allah help us be true 'religious' people
Peace

Because in the beginning spirituality was just that. A relationship between humans and a Divine higher power. They relied on the Divine for guidance, strength, and showed thanks in many different ways. There is a "God-like" existance in most of us, and have to focus on it, so that it can speak/direct us in the right path. There is duality in all of us, and it just depends on which side you give the most energy to. The Egyptians referred to it as Maat. Balancing one's self, to chose good vs evil. But in these latter years various religions have inducted political gain into the equation. Which means they put out books, rules, stories, fables, false destinys, to scare people one way or the other. Fear in itself, has more power to promote action (reaction) than relying on the good inside. This is why it is really important to develop a personal relationship with the Divine Creator, instead of listening to everyone elses interptation of what their religion says. Find a quiet place, meditate, ask questions, be quiet and wait. I parallel it to going to see a nutrition specialist, or a dietician, what my particular circumstances are with my body and organs, may require different foods to become healthy, depending on what things are in defecit, compared to yours. What if I smoke? Or what if you have diebetes? Or low blood counts? We would both require different diets. All food, but prescribed to us specifiially. Same with Spirituality. What does each soul need?

I don't know where you've been but I know many people in my church (religious people) who help the poor and needy. They just don't advertise it. It's stupid to help those in need just to be recognized for doing good. They do it without recognition because it's the right thing to do.

Because it is easier to say that you love God then to prove it by treating the poor and needy as the "BibLe" says with respect and helping them.
I find that most "religious" people blame the needy and the homless for thier situation instead of helping them.
The only time that so-called religious people remember that there are homless or need is at Christmas and that is only for one day.

In my opinion It all depends on where the heart is as well as the religion; Religion has numerous divisions.
Where my faith lies, it tells me to plant seed and if the seed is not accepted.....move on.
Where my faith lies it tells me that I do not convert souls....so what's there to fight about?
Where my faith lies it tells me to love my neighbor as myself...
therefore, I must help the needy.
My faith is a matter of the heart, in love, not hate.

Agreed, almost all wars starting in the biblical days have been fought over religion. Unfortunately, it will be another couple thousand of years.
