If it doesn't, then what does make you become lactose intolerant?

I'm LA. I become so because when I became a vegan (no dairy products, including trace amounts in processed foods). As a result, my body stopped producing the enzyme it needed to digest the milk because it didn't need it anymore. Once your body stopped making the enzyme to break down lactose (called lactase) it will not start to produce it again.

It's actually biologically supposed to happen to everyone once they grow out of infacy and stop drinking their mother's milk. But since Europeans started drinking it even after childhood, we maintained an unnatural tolerance.

Funny, huh?

The actual percentage of people who are really lactose intolerant is very very small. Most who think they are are a bit lactose sensitive, but not intolerant. No, giving up dairy for a while will not make you lactose intolerant. Besides, most coffee houses do not use a dairy product for the lattes anyway. Check with yours to see what it is they use for regular lattes and choose the soy? to have your lattes while following the special dietary commands.

I drink a TON of milk - always have, and I'm not lactose intolerant. I think it's like an allergy - you're either born with it, or develop it later in life. I'm not sure of what the reason might be.

1. Not drinking milk or eating dairy products for a fairly long period of time.

2. Taking a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills the bacteria in the gut that process lactose.

I think if you're lactose intolerant, you can't really drink alot of milk without having some adverse reactions (breakout, stomach problems, vomitting). Drinking more milk will only help your body adjust to it more.

drinking a lot of milk most likely will not make you lactose intolerant... but if your body does not digest milk/dairy properly, it is just your body, and you can take a pill over the counter to balance the body not accepting the dairy properly, hope it helps,
