If you have a PC and you have a spare PCI slot on the motherboard, then you can fit a firewire card, you can get one with extra USB2 ports at the same time. Lots of cheapo ones but I would get a Belkin.

The straight answer is "Yes you can add a firewire card to your PC if you have a spare slot for it."
However, you should beware of a few things, that might make you want to go out a buy a bigger, faster, better PC -
- if your CPU is less than 3GHz you'll be unhappy with performance when compiling and writing DVD's
- does your PC have a resonable quality DVD burner - 10% of DVD media end up as beer coasters
- 1 minute of native format video consumes about 1 Gb of disk - a full MiniDV tape will need about 60Gb of disk storage - a second drive is highly recommended
- more than 1Gb of RAM is highly recommended
I found out the hard way that although my aging Compaq could theoretically do the job, it was really barely up to the job. I ended up spending over $2000 on a new PC to run my digital video applications at a reasonable speed.
I would recommend buying a Pinnacle kit. You get the board and software that is more than capable for most users, while being easy to use.

Yes, get a firewire card for your PC that goes in a slot inside your PC.
No reason to spend more than a tenner (see below). The card should auto install in anything from windows ME to XP but not always Win 2000. You will need a 4pin to 6 pin cable too.
You'll need editing and transfer software too.

Check the device manager, and see if there is a problem, delete the drivers for the Firewire IEEE1394 card and re boot your computer, move the card to another slot in you can. if it still does not work, try to connect your camera to another computer, and see if its ok, maybe use another cable. if every thing works, then there is still something up with your card, if it does not work, then its down to the camera, try another camera. most cameras have a reset button, or restore factory defaults, that should sort out if you have messed up a setting. If nothing helps then take the camera to be looked at, you do not give any details about the important thing you camera or computer/ firewire card. Cannot help any more not enough details. God luck RR

You can add a firewire card if you have a spare slot. If you don't you can use USB based video capture hardware devices which are available in all electronic superstores such as Compusa, Circuitcity etc. (in USA) and Dixons in UK. Your camcorder can be connected to this devices using the Audio, video RFC cable and This devices can be connected to PC using the available USB ports.

As in previous answer - if you have spare PCI slot you can install a firewire card - PC World/John Lewis/Maplin stock such items - or you can obtain on ebay etc. They start from around £20, or even less if you shop around. I have seen video software packages complete with the card in shops at a reasonable price.
