You can measure two parameters from vibration. The frequency and amplitude. Again measuring the amount of shaking or the acceleration of shaking. For finding the acceleration simply keeping a piezo speaker at the place of vibration will record the vibration and give you the current according the shaking . You can measure it by the voltage developed in multimeter or you can connect it to the computer mic terminal and use sound chord oscilloscope soft ware to record it. To know the amount of shaking you need a different type of instrument working on the principal of difference in the impedance of core length .This instrument measure the different of voltage developed in two coils kept in opposite side with middle single iron core.I have designed these types of very simple equipments to measure earthquake waves. If you send your exact requirement I can help you to design one. My E Mail :- quakealert_no1@yahoo.com my advice is free only
