There is no protocol for such a horrible event. If you think the call wasn't real ask yourself why he would go to such extremes.

If it was real, he needs a very caring friend there beside him. The death of a parent is devastating. Life as you knew it ends and a new phase of life begins. You automatically grow up and fast. The death of a parent also causes many families to fall apart. He needs you to be understanding, non-judgmental, and be a good listener.

Hold him when he needs it, love when he wants it, be there for him to cry on when he cannot keep it together, and love him enough to step back a little when he needs space and time.

You will feel hopeless, helpless, off the radar and a million other things. Just remember he can be a boyfriend next week, next month, or a few from now, but he wil never again be a son to a living mom. You love him and show your support, however HE needs it. His needs must come first now.

protocol what the hell are you a ******* robot? You sit him down and tell him in the best way you can and wait for him to react. you make sure he has support from friends and family and mostly you. you just be there for him when he needs to cry or talk or just hold you..
no protocol just being human...

No protocol for this...best thing to do is hang back and let him grieve. If at anyway possible get him to get counciled.
All men,in one way or another, compare their women to their mothers..so this opens up a new can of worms for you.If he doesn't get help..you should because you are gonna have to know your options in dealing with this.

There is no protocol. Be supportive, ask him if he needs you do to anything for him. Contact family members, relatives and friends of his that might know more about him then you do. (family history) more support the better.

You make it situational.. First, you ask him about what he would do if you killed yourself... Later, ask him if one of his friends did.. Then later, yiou make use of his mother as the subject.. And ask him , "what if it's true?"...

Be supportive...let him know you are there for him...other than that, his family will probably take care of most of it...
