Nope.

No matter how the “facts” are sliced and diced, firearms do not commit crimes and groups of people with firearms does not mean crimes will be committed.

Look at any police force in the country. Every person on the force has one or more firearms. Do cops commit crimes? Yes, it happens. However, you rarely see cops holding people up, robbing banks, or committing murder.

Another case and point is the US military. A majority of the people in the military carry firearms or have access to them in their day to day duties. Do people in the military commit crimes? Yes, it happens. However, I do not recall a soldier robbing a poor old lady with a Humvee and an M-16.

What about Wisconsin? Gun deer hunting is a religion there. Until the Vang episode a few years ago, I hadn’t heard of many gun crimes committed during this season.

With each point I make, I am sure that you can make a valid counter point. However, there are two things that really can not be refuted.

1. The 2nd Amendment is an individual right, not a right held by the states (US vs Emerson, 2001, 5th Circuit Court). Also, when citizens are called to the defense of their country, they are expected to provide their own arms of the kind in common use at the time (US vs Miller, 1939, US Supreme Court). In short, the 2nd Amendment guarantees citizens the right to own modern arms, in this case, smokeless propellant, repeating firearms.

2. An armed population keeps government in check, both foreign and domestic. Despite all the men and firepower, the US military could never defeat the armed citizens in America. There are just too many. Guerilla warfare and cutting off supply lines will drive the government bankrupt and make modern fighting machines useless. From an international perspective, no foreign country would want to invade a country with an armed population. They would face the same headaches (guerilla warfare, supply problems, moral issues from constant sniper fire)

I pray that I will never have to grab my rifles to defend my country on our own soil. However, it is a real possibility. No country is the top dog forever. With our track record over the last couple of wars, the US may already be seeing the decline of its power.

Isn;t about time we slap the hell outta people like you?

Why??? Give me one good reason...let me give you your reasons and you let me know how close I am:

1)Gun Violence is on the rise: Wrong: Sure the stats say that: But with population growth: shows more crime: Actually more gun crime occured more in the mid to late 1800's.

2)Guns in homes get children killed:
Wrong the Parent that left the gun out killed their child
I have many guns but they are locked in a SAFE. and if I need to clean them I do so with no one else in the room.

3)Guns have no purpose::
WRONG: Why do you think you have the right to say what you say: Lets see here is a good example: Revolutionary WAR..ring a bell...State Led Militia's...the soldiers in the militias were ALL volunteer meaning they usually had their own "kentucky" long rifle.

4) People commit crime with them:
This I will give to you. But, a bank robber in 1995 stole about 200,000 from various banks. With nothing more than a Ball point pen and a typed note. A crime occured in 2002 were in a 23 year old man assualted his nieghbor with a butcher knife.

People like this crack me up. Go look at the stats on the RISING VOilent crime in the countries that have banned guns.

Then come back...or give us some basis to why you ask this

Thanks

I think that's probably the most unAmerican thing I've ever heard! First off, why would anyone want to "get rid of" a good tool? second, if they weren't at home, where would they be? Third, If you think they ought to be "gotten rid of" you're obviously uneducated to the many uses that I as an American and a patriot find for my well valued firearms!

Absolutely. Criminal sometimes use firearms in the commission of crimes. After that we should look into taking away everybody's vehicle because a lot of crimes are committed by people in cars. Ultimately I look forward to the day that the government removes the oxygen from the air because we all know that criminals breathe oxygen. Without the oxygen, crime will come to a standstill, thereby protecting us all. Who cares if it violates a couple of people's so called "constitutional rights?" If it saves even one life then getting rid of oxygen is the way to fight crime.

No. The Second Amendment to the Consitution of the United States of America is easily the most important civil right possessed by the individual citizens of the United States of America.

No It is garenteed in the constitution that we have the right to keep and bear arms.
And if you want to read about it in the minds of the founding fathers then you can start with the jefferson papers and then go to the thoughts frem Ben Franklin and all the rest.
The people of a free country have the right and need to posses wepons for the defence of there homes and protection of there property in the event of tiranical goverment as well as for the protection of home and family.

Absolutely not this great country of ours made the constitution with the right to bear arms.We do not have a gun problem what we do have is a judicial system that is to lenient on the criminals,Almost all crimes are committed from people that have criminal records not by the legal gun owners the courts need to quit babying these guys and start giving tougher sentience's, Every time some one does a crime with a gun automatically they want to ban guns what about drunk drivers do they ban alcohol or cars.

NO! Don't you realize that guns are tools? They cannot be banned in America, because, well, at least a few Americans will never give up their guns. Anyway, you can kill someone almost as easily with a big wrench as with a gun. You just have to get closer.

I do not know where you live, but I live in Montana, I could not survive with out my guns, I feed and protect my family with them.
I know some people live in the city and depend on others for protection, some of us in remote areas do not have that option.
All people live in different situations, some may choose not to have firearms, but for us it is not a choice we have to have them,
Its part of life.

Why don't you move to a country where legal civilian ownership of firearms is against the law....... Maybe Iraq would be a good place for you to start.
