don't believe in organized religions...I do believe that there is a purpose to life and perhaps a higher deity that us....I don't believe that there is nothing.

I do have spiritual beliefs. I believe we have souls; I believe that every living thing has a spirit of sorts, something internal that identifies it as more than just bones and flesh. I think of the pagan Horned God and Mother Goddess as personifications of those natural spirits.
I believe that when we love someone, our souls twine together.
My husband's and my wedding vows did not speak of parting at death, but being together "as long as our souls exist." I don't know if our souls die when our bodies do -- so we covered it either way!
edit -- In response to other answers, I have never seen a definition of atheism that claims it denies the existence of spirits or souls. It denies the existence of supreme being(s).

You my friend, are not an atheist then. Agnostic would be the
term. They don't accept nor deny the reality of God. But still
believe in the spirit world and things.
We all go through a stage of hating on religion. That's because
of the self-righteous, hypocritcal way many preach it.
Please don't take 30 years of self-destruction, like I did,
to realize religion is just common sense.
God doesn't make anyone do anything. He just lets us know
how to make life easier for ourselves. If we break the Law,
it's not God who will come after us.It's MAN. And man has no
mercy. He will put another man in prison until his body and
mind rots. And won't care.

Not "spiritual" as such. I believe in Einstein, cause and effect, the scientific method and a version of the efficient markets hypothesis.
Doesn't sound "spiritual", but it shows me how to live my life.

Atheists believe there is no God, but they have no proof, so their belief is a faith-based belief, and that makes it their religion.
Thus, they have a religious belief they can't prove, and that makes them a bunch of hypocrites for whining about Christians not being able to prove our faith-based belief.

Your Atheism offends me, keep it to yourself.
...Just kidding. But it's a great line to use if someone's "offended" by the term "Merry Christmas."
