Born Muslims how do you feel different from converts?
Converts/Reverts, How do you feel different from Born Muslims?
For me a convert: I had to learn everything from books. I did not have the advantage of MOM and DAD telling me what to do. But is also rewarding because I get to investigate and learn my religion more.

(By the way it took me 7 years to BE CONVINCED about ISLAM, meanwhile I was saying there is no way I am becoming Muslim, Not me nono no, and look at who is Muslim now?) Goes to show!
But this is an important question for me because I was not taught islam growing up, so it is tough. I would think Born Muslims have it easier???

Yes, sister, you are right. We are blessed to have had it the easier way. You grow up finding everyone around you a muslim. Prayer and Quran recitation are common everyday life things. And we get to learn the basics and some detailed stuff at school though.
However, unless we exert the effort to read and learn more about Islam, we end up almost knowing just the pillars! Things are taken for granted that we are muslims so some do not feel the need to question issues, look for answers, learn more, etc. That is why many converts know about Islam more than born muslims. It matters to them more beause they earned it themselves. They hold on to it tighter because they got it the difficult way.
May Allah help us all learn more and more about our religion
Peace

There should be a slight different between the new convert and the borned muslim, the difference is a new convert even he had done all the evil deeds
before his convert, these evil deeds will not be taken into consideration by the God after his convertion as a muslim. God will treat the new convert as a
new borned baby with no sin at all just as pure as a piece of white paper. Whereas as a borned muslims, they do not have such special privileges as compare to the new converts.

Good question.. about to ask the same thing..
I think that reverted Muslims know better and are more faithful than born-Muslims.. I am born Muslim BTW, but as a revert, you want to know everything that makes you convert, but me, I dont even know why I am a Muslim besides the fact that my parents are Muslim.. and I will never leave this religion because I have pledged to god that I will never leave this religion.. COngrats to converts..

I am a born Muslim, but with shame, I say that I am not very religious where I pray at all the 5 times. I fast, and I don't eat or consume anything that is not halal and that is about all.
I'm on the road to being a better Muslim where I'm relearning how to pray and read the Quran, and I don't blame my parents for not educating me in the ways of Islam, for when I was younger, they were the "liberal and modern" parents.
But as all of us grew older, we realised that we have obligations to fulfill as Muslims.
I think the lifestyle that youths have now is partly to blame. Living in a metropolitan city with many non-Muslim friends, I get carried away with the nightlife.
As a muaalaf (you, a convert), I wish you all the best, sister.
Remember, no one journey in life is easy. Take it in your stride, and Insya'allah, may God bless you with a clear heart. (:

I have to agree with the analyst here...
I have the impression that those who chose a religion out of research due so with full intent, without taking that religion for granted cause they went through high and low to find that which would make their hearts rest in peace.
I believe even if youve come from a Muslim family, you must constantly investigate and research your religion. constantly looking for ways to improve your faith and support it with strong logical arguments, rather than blind, childlike faith.
Thanks for the question
Edit: It is definitely easier for a person who gets all the info from the start when their mind is not clouded by other things, however, your parents education is never enough as not every parent knows all there is to know about a religion unless they are highly educated. Most of the common faults in muslims today exist because their parents have not taught them better, or were ignorant. Theres no harm in being ignorant, theres harm in not learning. So rejoice in what you have, as I am sure that we need people like urself who have went through a lot to find Islam.
Because when I use logic during religious debate, Im almost always faced with: but youre born muslim, and your parents have taught you this, and I have to show them that I have reinforced my faith through personal thought. And the effort I exhort in order to prove to people that am not brainwashed is tiring in itself.

yeah but the reward is not the same! those who convert to Islam from other religion, get their reward doubled:
even though i born inside a muslim family, however that's not the reason why i become a believer in Islam. i have questioned my faith, then i believed, then God showed me the truth (i can't speak of details about this one).
so i am very confident 150% that my God is in that book called the Quran, no doubt about it.
it dosen't matter if you born muslim or no. here is God explaning that there is different between muslim and a believer.
[14] The bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islâm),' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts......
Quran 49:14
so there is different between muslims and believer in Islam.

it's not about a specific religion..in anything in this world, when u do something out of being convinced is always much better than doing it cz u're obliged or even worse, cz u think that's the default and never thought about it
