This maybe a long shot but it is well worth a try as I am at a dead end...... Does anyone know of a woman called Gertrude Evans, formally Gertrude Farr, she use to live in a small village called Hickleton in south yorkshire from or before 1955 - 1968, she once was married to a guy called Fredrick Evans, (she may still be). Her and her husband worked for the Earl & Countess of Halifax. If anyone knows of her or her family, please let me know, I am desperate to find her or some of her family, This is no gimmick. I need to find her or her family, as she is my mum.

Groid...... I have gone through the right channels and tried the options you have stated, but the adoption agency has come unstuck.... they have tried tracing her but have had no success, so I thought I would try this way.

Hi, am so sorry that you've only just found this out, must have been quite distressing. Do you know which agency or Local Authority you were adopted through? They will have records, and maybe a last known address for your mother. If you have this information, I would advise trying them first, they are always really helpful, and will probably be able to give you some good tips on finding her. If you're not sure, try the local social services adoption team in the area you were born to start with. Lastly, the Salvation Army also sometimes help with tracing people.
Good luck

Go to yahoo people search, I typed in Gertrude Farr and it came up with 10 listings. When I typed in Gertrude Evans it came up with 36 listings. Then when I typed in Fredrick Evans it came up with 128 listings. Also it shows you the names of a few relatives beside there names. Maybe you will have a little luck there. I hope you find her and wish you all the luck in the world.

As far as I am aware, if you are trying to trace your mother because you were adopted, you are supposed to do this through Social Services. Your natural mother may be married and have other kids now and you turning up out of the blue could cause them a lot of shock and distress. Social services or the adoption agency should make contact with her first to see if she wants to meet you. It may sound hard but she will respect you for going through the proper channels first.
Good luck.

Sorry no. Have you approached the Earl etc of Halifax to see if they could help trace her? Another option would be to seek advice from a solicitor, they may be able to trace family but not sure how much this would cost. Good luck.

You could try emailing johndabell@freenetname.co.uk. who runs a local Hickleton website and has lived there all his life (don't know how long that is!) but he clearly will have some knowledge of the area and just may be able to help. Good luck in your quest.

Try this website (www.genesreunited.co.uk) type in her name and it will come up with some possibilties, I just tried it and it came up with quite a few, but I dont know her date or place of birth and you will know things in greater detail, give it a go as you can contact people on that website.
I hope you find your mum x

Maybe worth trying the Office For National Statistics - just search for them online, they can usually help. Hope you find her.

Have you tried writing to a local newspaper in any areas you know they lived in? Do you remember any of their old friends?
Good luck to you
