Do you think that microwaves can escape into the air? Or even worse, can microwaves go through you? Do you think there might be any long term or short term effects for doing this on a consistent basis?

I'm thinking that "Just because the microwave oven turns off when you open the door, that doesn't necessarily mean that the microwaves stop moving too"

So where do the microwaves go that are currently moving through the food, at the instant that you open the door and the microwave turns off? Yes, my friends, it is in that order. First you open the door THEN the microwave turns off. yes, it is quite instant. But, as fast as microwaves travel, it only takes an instant for microwaves to leave out through an open microwave oven door.

Most microwaves are set to automatically stop the moment the door is opened. That given, it's pretty much like waiting for the darn thing to turn off - so far as I can figure.

Microwaves act just like light waves most of the time. They travel almost at light speed, and just like when you swith off the light and plop! it gets dark, none remain when the microwave oven is switched off.
And, (as earlier posters have already stated), it will be switched off automatically when you open the door, xept if it's been subject to some wicked manipulation.

Sorry, but what a bunch of lame answers. he didn't ask "have you done it?" or "are you still alive?" or "does microwaves stop cooking once you open the door?" duhhhh. only 1 person so far answered the question or Rebel. How do you guys know it doesn't affect your DNA, even the little that escapes? Everyone's talking out there... ashtrays

It's BAD for you. They do test these appliances rigourously, so you don't have anything to worry about when it's switched off, but if you're uncomfortable with the idea, just don't use the microwave. If you worry, you're liable to make yourself ill anyway!
