CT Scanning is another method of imaging which shows more extensive images than the ultrasound or X-rays.

Differences:
Ultrasonography - a useful ultrasound-based diagnostic medical imaging technique which uses non-ionizing radiation therefore it is said to be safe.

X-ray -often used to determine the type and extent of a fracture as well as lungs problems. It does offer an extensive imaging and it contains radiation

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - can ONLY "see" hydrogen based objects, thus makes it excellent for looking into the brain and joints. Bone, which is calcium based, will be a void in the image, and will not affect soft tissue views. It does not involve the use of ionizing radiation.

CT Scan - generate a three-dimensional image of the internals of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation. It has ionizing radiation.it is the gold standard in the diagnosis of a large number of different disease entities.♥

There are many medical imaging "Modalities" Each exists because it can image parts of the body better than some other modality. X-ray, CT (Computed Tomography) and Nuclear medicine (PET-positron emmision tomography, and others) all use Radiation. MRI uses magnets and radiofrequency(can excite all atoms with an odd number of protons,of which hydrogen is just the most common) and then there is Ultrasound. Ultrsound is an offshoot of sonar technology developed to locate underwater objects like submarines. Like sonar, ultrasound uses sound waves to "see" into your body. Ultrasound uses no radiation, so it is very good for imaging structures that would be very sensitive to radiation, like a fetus. Ultrasound is also very useful because it can measure flow-like blood flowing through an artery in your leg, for example.
Without knowing specifically which area of the body was to be tested I could not reccomend an alternative to Ultrasound. If you have questions or concerns you should should speak with your physician, and if he or she is not able to answer your question you could try calling your local hospital or clinic and ask to speak to a technition.
Good Luck!
