I did a bit of coursework on Ely recently, I think I described it as "an overflow of Cambridge". That may sound a bit like an insult, but I meant it in the best possible way. Most of the town is now made up of expensive houses for commuters, because of its ideal placement near Cambridge and on a railway line to London. There is not to much in the way of council housing so I would imagine the crime rate is quite low, there was certainly know graffiti when I went. It is a fairly quiet town, but parking is becoming a bit of a problem. There is a new school which has just been built in one of the new expensive estates, which could benefit your kids. Secondary schools in the area some of the best in the country, I recommend St Bede's School in Cambridge, they have buses that go out to Ely to bring in Students because it is so popular. The town is quite beautiful.

It is a really nice place to bring up children - it is quiet, although with the one way system it does get congested with cars.

I had an East Anglian childhood - I was brought up in Norfolk - I lived in a place like Ely, it was very idyllic and peaceful. I feel very fortunate to have been brought up in a place like it.

In the future I would love to move to a town or village in East Anglia to bring up any children I may have.

I love Ely too - but that is mainly to do with the connection with Oliver Cromwell. But if I did have a choice, and of course it depends where you are based in terms of jobs, I would move to the Norfolk/Suffolk border in a town like beccles or loddon or something.

You are not far from various which keep children amused, the Great Yarmouth seafront with its funfairs (although really dodgy place for crime), the Norfolk broads, rent a boat and let them see all the wildlife, the shopping in Norwich is much better than Cambridge, other urban centres are not that far away, peterbourgh, Ipswich, Lowestoft, again another seaside town with amusements, but a bit better than yamouth. You also have a major theme park not far from Lowestoft - Pleasurewood hills.

But on the whole East Anglia is a beautiful part of the world to bring up children in.

It's supposed to be really nice - my boss lives closeby and always says it's lovely. Search on the internet for crime rates etc. you should be able to find local community information - I think the website might be something like upmystreet. Alternatively, try the council website for more information.
