If you got the receipt for your purchase, contact Microsoft to re-activate your Windows, then it will work.

They are legally obliged to help you in this situation if you have a receipt, irrelevant that the company is bust or how long ago you purchased it. Without the receipt, you can try your luck.

Otherwise you are left with downloading from another machine then installing on yours.

I'm dead against cracks of any kind. In this case, I would not like to say who is the scammer, because they are getting good at bulls***ing nowadays.

Worst case scenario: purchase a new copy.

You may not be conning them ... but looks like you were conned ... unless your PC comes with a genuine manufactures partion enabling you to create a set of recover discs you MUST legally recieve a copy of the operating system .... Me thinks you gonna hafta just live with it

If you genuinely believe your Comp was legit and can supply the name of the person/persons you purchased the computer from Microsoft will send you a Genuine Legit copy of XP ... then they will prosecute the offenders

sounds like you have an illegal copy of windows. Your best bet is to go out and purchase a real copy of winows XP and just deal with the fact that you got scammed.

Yeah.

Maybe someone already used the CD Key which you're using. Maybe thats why it shows up as illegal.

But its Micro$oft so you cant say for sure...

Please don't discuss cracking and hacking in Y!Answers - there are already plenty of places on the net to do this, so why try and ruin Y!Answers with it?!
