If they were custom and handmade, what would be a reasonable price to pay for a couple of chairs and a matching table for children?

If it is custom made and good wood I would pay about $150. When the child outgrows it you can store it for them to give to their children and so on. You may want to ask for a Formica top so that spills and such are an easy clean-up.

I never had one custom made I did however purchase one from Ikea and painted it to match my son's room. Ikea has very nice children's furniture at affordable prices and you can paint and decorate them yourself. That is of course if you don't mind doing it yourself and are looking to save money. If there isn't an Ikea in your area, they do have a website. Good luck and I hope that my answer is helpful to you.
