thanks and questions like this will enhance the quality of YA, where hate is only prevailaing
Hinduism has been a target of Missionaries, like Islam has been, for centruries.... since West had money and media they really tried to prove everything else is wrong
Many myths about hinduism are :-
- hindus have millions of Gods (Wrong becoz we believe in One God who manifests as Creator, operator and destroyer)...since hinduism allows its followers to worship god in any form..as father, mother or guru...people worship that One god as per their choice
- Hindus worship male/female sex parts ---pure non-sense... (some quote Shiva-Linga...but linga means formless..not penis here)
- hindus worship cows and animals - hindus respect cow as an angel sent by god to help mankind as she gives milk like mother and helps in agriculture.....WE dont treat Cow as God
- Hindus hate muslims & Christians ---from childhood we are taught to respect all prophets and all faiths...which believe in God. We bow our head before any Mosque/temple/church coming in our way.
- Hindus worship idols - this may be wrong as per semitic religions...but hindus have their own idea behind this. We do not treat idols as gods, but they are treated as external stimulii for mediations.
- Hindus Extremism - As we have fanatics in christianity, Islam and other relgions...there are some hindus who think they are being suppressed by other religions... this is a worldwide thing and hindus alone cant be blamed.
It may be noted that hinduism does not condemn any other faith..and have respect for all religions.
We should instead of calling each others' prophets names... try to amalgamate our philosophy and march towards the truth faster.

Misconceptions happen because (1) people never want to learn about other religions, (2) people just believe their own religions are the best and the most correct, (3) people lack emphaty and respect for others.

All every religion there are people who mis-represent their religion. If you don't go into rituals all religions say that one should remember God, love God and yearn to meet him. But those who are not concerned with the basic aim run the business of religion like a shop and so they follow all marketing rules...such as belittling the competitor, selling one's one product by showing other products in bad light. This brings bad name to any religion.
If you look for real religious fellows be it christian, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Budhists you will find them simple, modest and open-hearted. They don't bother themselves with marketing rules.

This is a very good question.
To tell the truth there is actually no "Hindu" term found in any of the Vedic Scritpures of India.
"Hindu" is a term given to the India by neighbouring countries, who are involved in Business Purposes. There is nothing like "Hindu" Religion, mentioned in the "Vedic Literatures of India".
The actual religion is "Varnasrama Dharma". It means 4 classes and 4 divisions of life. This is very simple, and best design to uplift anyone to the highest stage of understanding and loving God.
4 - CLASSES OF PEOPLE: not based on birth but on the qualities of people.
======================================
1) Intelligent Class - brain of social body
2) Administrative Class - arms of social body for protection
3) Economic Class - belly of social body, to provide for people
4) Labor Class - those who are unable do above 3 functions, and those who accept service, with other 3 classes.
The whole society is guided by the Intelligent Class of people, and all other 3 classes respect them and provide for them. They practice truthfulness, non-violence, study of Scripture, teaching to people; these are most noble people, from whom people would learn and follow their good principles.
Now a days, people never follow any saintly people, so there is NO HEAD for IN SOCIEITY now a days. A body without HEAD is chaos, evident in this WORLD. Mostly now, people are of the 4th class, because THEY LIKE TO ACCEPT SERIVCE from others. And a few economists, who EXPLOIT the world. For the sake of 10 people, 10,000 people must work HARD in IRON factories, and kill themselves in coal mines, etc. Forgetting the goal of life, they EVERYONE IS EITHER KILLING OTHERS or killing themselves.
Killing, I mean---not killing of body, but forgetting the real business of Human Life. According the Vedic Civilization, Human life is meant for spiritual advancement. And this is forgotten now a days, and people care FOR THE DRESS OF A PERSON, and not the person himself.
And the Intelligent Class of Varnasrama System, help people to advance spiritually, to achieve the goal of human life.
===========================
4 DIVISIONS --
1. Student life - 25 years under the care of Intelligent Class for training, either in Administration or Ecnomoy or simply labor, depending on the instinct of students.
2. House hold life - 25 years of married life.
3. Retired Life - 25 years. PRACTICING WHAT IS LEARNT IN FIRST 25 YEARS in relation to God. Now a days, people hang on to their LEADER SHIP positions till DEATH OR till they are KILLED by the other party. This shows, that people have totally lost the POINT of HUMAN LIFE.
4. Renounce Life - 25 year to completely depend on the mercy and control of the Supreme Lord. Realzing and preaching the Glory of the Supreme Lord, and preach how to become happy in this world and the next.
==========
THIS IS THE PERFECT SOCIAL PLAN of Vedic Civilization, practiced in India, till last 5000 YEARS, according to the History of India, presented in Mahabharata.
