Sorry you cannot do anything to prevent grey hair, it is something that grows naturally when the time for it comes. So the only solution is to dye the hair.

You really can't. Grey hair tends to be a heredity thing.

My mom was at least half grey, by the age of 38 and I started going grey at 20-21.

Been dying my hair ever since.

The color of hair is due to the presence in the cortex of granules of a pigment called melanin, which is formed in special pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) in the hair bulb during the growing phase (anagen) of each hair. (http://www.pg.com/science/haircare/hair_twh_59.htm)

Will getting enough, even if it is through supplements, help maintain one's "natural" hair color, such as keep it from turning gray or return it to its previous color if it is already graying?

NO, if it was this easy to maintain hair color, this would have become a billion dollar industry by now and come into the mainstream. )http://www.nutritionalsupplements.com/melaninQ1.html)

Basically, grey hair is caused by lack of pigment. I believe it will happen to all people as the get older, as I read it starts in many people in their 20's, they just don't notice it.

Embrace your grey. Grey hair does not mean you are getting "old". It just means your losing pigment.

Good luck.

There is no proven way of preventing gray hair. You can only dye it or wear a wig.
