Erwin Rommel

He is the only non-American general on the cover of the US Army Leadership manual. (Unless you count George Washington as British but I don't)

He was a Soldiers Soldier. He lead many missions in World War 1 as a Lieutenant that were outstanding. He also was a marvelous leader in north Africa in WW2 fighting off a larger force with little supplies.

He was an Excellent leader and Lived and Believed the Army Values of the day that Officers in the military were non-political (in Germany they could not even vote)

He was also part of the attempt to assassinate Hitler.

General of the Army Dwight David Eisenhower.

He was a soldiers soldier. He was concerned for the grunts in the field more than the bureaucrats in the back. He led the Allied forces in one of the greatest victories in history.

Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was great too, he went in with the first wave at Normandy.
