Yeah! I hate this crap where rich and famous people go on about how hard they've worked to get where they are and how they deserve their wealth because of the work they've put in. So, like, I don't work hard? Anyone who isn't rich just hasn't worked hard enough? Loads of people work very very hard and aren't rich, but then I guess that they haven't had all the help from rich friends, rich parents, connections to fame and money, private education and never ever having to think about others. Or maybe they chose to work really hard at something that mattered to them, such as social work, that really doesn't make money for anyone else, but why should that work be valued less? That's the problem with all those stupid African people starving to death is it?? - they're just lazy and didn't work hard enough??? Or they just didn't have the right 'attitude'??? Nobody's entitled to the wealth that many people have and flash around while others live in suffering and poverty. I know we live in a capitalist society, but when the rich guys somehow start thinking they've earned it and are worth more as people because of the immense fortunes they've accrued when there is so much inequality and hardship that others must suffer, that's just wrong.

No, the rich and powerful are there by virtue of birth, good fortune, dumb luck or hard work. They are not normal and they do not live a normal lifestyle and in America they don't have to. Thank God we have industrial movers and shakers (Carnegie's, Mellons, Rockefellers et al.) that brought this country to its superior place in the world. In a capatalist system, the rich usually get richer and they build and produce and invent and hire what you call "normal" people. That is the order of things. BUT the filthy rich overwhelmingly give away millions and billions of dollars to charities, scholarships and universities so that "normal" people have the opportunity based upon their abilities, to move up in class and status.
Notice how the rappers and hip hoppers and other "normal people" prior to hitting it big drive around and "flash their stuff." How many of these "artists" are "giving back." Very few. I suspect that since almost all came from poverty, they develop a "fear" of losing it all so they hoard. That's the way people are. You NEVER just give money to a "poor" person, you provide food, shelter and clothing and opportunity. The problem with "normal" people is that millions of Americans are lazy, they were brought up to be lazy by lazy parents and they will always be lazy expecting hand outs throughout life.
The rich and powerful will never come down to earth with a "bump." But, the "normal" person who does not work his and her butt's off will live a life of "bumps." It's called tough love.

Do you realize that a lot of those 'rich and powerful people' work 12 to 16 hours a day?
Movie stars can spend 8 hours just getting their make up done, depends on the part they play, like monsters and such, then there's still the actual filming for another 8 hours at least.
People like Gates spend 8 to 12 hours a day at the office plotting and planning things to grow the company.
So they don't just sit around all the time, they work their behinds off too.
But like you, I think they could be a little less snobby when it comes to being around us normal people.

i agree somewhat but your view needs perspective ...
rich people who are flashy may be insecure, as the real trick is to combine power and humility and exercise power with compassion
maybe those rich people contribute a lot to the economy - who knows?
i don't think "the rich" are found sitting down all day - many are highly skilled and motivated and it is often the way the system sis set up as a capitalist meritocracy that rewards greed & lets them earn a disproportionately large amounts of money
those that inherit their riches may be another story - but it is more complex and more specific than flinging around generalisations
but
... since the rich and powerful OWN (as is "pwn") the world, i'm not sure there is a simple way to "bring them down to earth with a bump" ...
apart from starting all over again ...

EVERYONE has the opportunity to be rich.... People simply make different decisions which is why everyone is where they are in life. The poor hard worker could be rich if they didn't spend all their money and instead invest it so it soon makes its own money ! YES it is that easy ! It is not how much money you make but how much YOU KEEP ! If someone doesn't have enough then they should stop spending it all !
Its all about choices... we all wake up every morning with the opportunity to make choices regarding our finances !

If rich people have made their money through legal ways, good for them. And if that is the case they didn't sit on their bottoms all day but worked like they ran a business and so on.
Flashing your wealth and not giving back to the community is wrong, I agree with you on that.

They can only look down there noses at you if you are willing to be lower than them. I don't have alot of money. I'm in debt up to my ears, but I have a husband and 2 children who love me with all of their hearts. I am the richest woman in the world for it. Besides all of that I have a father that is building me a mansion, the streets around it are going to be made out of gold, the walls are going to be pure jasper, and the gates will be pearl. Not even Bill Gates can top that! I don't see anybody looking down their noses at me. I feel sorry for those who have alot of money, they try buying things to make them happy, but real happiness can't be bought. I sounds like it is you looking down your nose at them. You should try looking within and see how rich you truly are.

Nah, I disagree. In this country it isn't easy to get rich; you can't inherit money because the government will take half, you can't save it because the government will take half, you can't earn it because, well, you know. By the time you actually get enough money to be called rich and powerful then you need a good rest! And poor people are not our responsibility!

Wealth is something that should be earned. I believe that anyone that has actually got up off their backside and earned their wealth, truely deserves it. You will notice that most osf those peolple are nice and would never look down on anyone, as they were once there and knon how it feels.
On the other hand you have a mojority of spoilt brats who has had their wealth giving to them, they have no reality on life, no respect for people. They do nothing and probably never will. These peolple do not deserve wealth.

Unfortunately this is the real world. Some are lucky in some ways and other in a different ways. Don't think that just because they have money the have good or lucky of happy lives, it can be very much opposite. So let's look at what we have got and be thankful.
