Either dry skin or allergies. My dog has the same problem. She'll scratch so much she has open wounds. My vet has been no help, saying just not to bathe her as much. =P I've been researching this and it could be as simple a remedy as finding a different food to actually having the dog tested for WHAT the allergy is. Good luck, it's a long, frustrating battle!

There ARE no home remedies for a dog with this kind of serious problems with its teeth and gums. But neglecting your dog's oral care can lead to serious health problems like heart and kidney disease, so be prepared to deal with that if you "can't`` take your dog to the vet for the care all dogs need.

It could still be fleas, you may not see them. It only takes one flea to drive some dogs nuts. You may want to put some frontline on him just to be sure. He may also have allergies. He could be allergic to the shampoo you are using. It is really hard to tell without running expensive tests. One thing you could do is use a medicated shampoo. Lather up good and try to leave it on him at least 5 min before you rinse off. If it's too cold to do that, wrap him up on a towel for the waiting time. It should help. If you feel like he is itching a lot, then you can give him some Benadryl.be sure to note that it is NOT safe to use the liquid form
The biggest form of allergies in dogs results from either flea bites or the food.

In order to determine if it is the food buy a food that has NO corn products in it. Corn is the biggest thing in dog food that causes allergies. There are a lot of reasons why your dog could have itchy skin.

It would be best to bring him to the vet so he/she can correctly diagnose him and help you find a solution to give your dog relief.

Do not ever give your dog medication without a vet's advice on the right kind and proper dosage.

It's probably scratching due to a skin irritation caused by an allergic reaction (probably to a food). Fleas are another possibility, as are mites. Check with your vet, next time you visit.

Your dog may have dry skin or skin infection, see the vet before it gets worse.

Dry skin, allergies or a nervous tick. See your vet and animal psycholigist about it.

Perhaps it is a skin infection. Get the dog to your vet in order to get the correct diagnosis and treatment.
