It was Otto Frederick Rohwedder who invented the first bread slicer, which he started working on in 1912.
He first came up with the idea of a device that held the slices of bread together with hat pins! Not a success of course. However, in 1928, he designed a machine that not only sliced the bread but wrapped the bread too in order to prevent the sliced bread from going stale.
Pre-sliced bread became very popular by Wonder Bread in 1930, this soon led to the toaster becoming a very popular item. The first toaster was invented in 1893 in Great Britain by Crompton and Co (UK) and re-invented in 1909 in the United States.

Frederick had invented bread in 1912,
in his bakery.
Albert Eienstine told him to cut in to
pieces, for convenience. They were
friends and often sit together for a
chat and Frederick offered him biscuits
made by him.
