An orthopedic surgeon or hand surgeon will be able to help you. First some good X-rays. He may want to use a arthroscope on you. It's a needle with a small lens that will go up your wrist. You will be out. He will be able to see what your problems are in the wrist, bones, etc.

You don't go into what the doctor has tried or done for you in this situation. There are a few options that you can take, see a second physician, try wearing a carpal tunnel wrist brace (if that helps let MD know), try alternating ice and heat to see if that relieves any pain, check with a chiropractor. This is just a short list. Without more information as to what type of 'pain' this is, not really able to ascertain what to do. But I would for sure become more aggressive in finding an answer (6 months is too long)

Hey, I woke up with the same thing yesterday morning and it's still hurting. What is stupid is I have no idea what I did to make it this way. I have never had this before. Feels like a sprain, yes mine too. Even taking a Motrin does nothing. The pain is nearly there all the time and it shoots up to my upper arm and last night in the shoulder. You have had it for 6 months?! I don't like the sounds of that. I should head over to my Dr. and see what he says, and if there is something I can share with you, I will. Does wrapping it with a tensor bandage help? I was thinking of getting one last night.

Do you spend a lot of time at the keyboard? Or do anything that constantly repeats the same motion involving your arms, like pack groceries or work with vibrating tools? If so, you may be experiencing a repetitive strain injury or you may be developing carpal tunnel syndrome. There are several tests the doctors can use ascertain your nerve function in your arms and shoulders--go back to your doctor and be a cranky patient!

I broke my arm and had to have a cast up to my shoulder because I pulled the tendons. It always felt like I hit my funny bone.
I have carpal tunnel. That sometimes hurts up my arm, I keep flexing my arm to try to get it to stop hurting. But the carpal tunnel makes my hand go numb, starting at the thumb.
But 6 month's? I'd go to a different Dr.
Also, don't sleep on your arm.

Do you have any numbness? Does it feel like a "electrical" short circuit? All I'm getting at is it could be related to a pinched nerve in your neck. Another question...Does it go away when you lay down and come back when you stand up> I had random SEVERE pain all up and down my arm. It turned out to be a pinched nerve.

Did he check for arthritis or tendinitis? Any kind of pain is telling you there's something wrong. You should perhaps check with another doctor and I recommend a rheumatologist.
