Are they the lowest in calories for fruit or is there an alternative fruit that's just as cheap to eat and low in calories? Or can anyone suggest a different way to eat them?

They can be boring it's true, some varieties are just a mouthful of sugar and water. Try different varieties.

Cox's Orange Pippins only have a short season but are really lovely when they are fresh and new, and preferably local or at least English, because they haven't been shipped for weeks from across the sea.

Then, Russets. Very nice and tasty. Not everyone likes the matte skins they have, so you could peel them.

Braeburn is another great apple.

But really bear in mind that apples should be a seasonal thing. From now until, not sure - maybe February, you'll get English apples in season. And they will be superior to anything that's travelled. Imagine the apples from Chile, for instance. It takes a sea container ship about 3 weeks to get from Chile to Europe. That's not going to do much for the taste-flavour-texture of the apple. Same goes for South Africa, New Zealand . . . . . they pick fruit unripe and it either ripens en-route naturally or I've heard they pump gas round the container to articially ripen. Not sure if that's true for apples. . . . .

But you get the gist! There are hundreds of apple varieties out there, but the big supermarkets (on the whole) want us eating bloody Gold Delicious. Boring!

Go get some local apples!

PS It helps to eat an apple when you are nice and hungry, then it will taste even better!

i grew up in South Africa where they grow the stuff. I love apples, always have, especially the very dark red varieties. They're tasty, and when you say you don't know how to eat them it sounds almost strange, since its been an early childhood activity for me since i can remember. They are exceptionally good are apples, some people suggest cutting them in four etc, which is probably a good idea, i just bite right into them. Mind you, where i was growing up, we had the saying "an apple a day, keeps the dentist away" some people say "doctor"...
Well, needless to say, i've lived in the uk the last 6 years and not ONCE have been to the dentist, so apart from brushing, i still stick to my apples. I have very good hassle free teeth, still going strong. Don't give up on apples, there are many other ways you can have them. When you have coleslaw, cut up a slice of apple into small bits (dice them) and put that in the coleslaw, it gives it a nice fresh taste! Another way of eating apple is cut into squares, and with pieces of mango or banana, place in bowl, pour some low fat yoghurt over, sprinkle muesli bits and enjoy! Muesli with grated apple over it tastes really good, try to steer clear of sweet muesli's, it might blur the already sweet tasting apple. I hate cooked apple, can't eat it for the life of me, but some people like apple pie? (yuck) with custard. Apparently oranges are very low in calories, and you can try grating an orange with carrots and pineapple (got their own juices) and eat this as a salad. Oranges which are in their natural form are also good because of the Vitamin C content, great in winter to fight off illnesses (thats why nature produces them naturally around winter). There are endless possibilities, email me if you want any more ideas.

There are heaps of fruit and veg out there to try. Apples are actually low in antioxidents and other 'healthy chemicals' it is a good idea to make sure you eat a range of different coloured fruit and veg to ensure the best variety, why not try raw carrots or cherry tomatoes, grapes, cherries, raw peppers, fresh pineapple, you can also bake apples- remove the core and fill with nnuts/ raisins/ dates and a little honey and cook til soft in the oven, grate them into cereal/ porridge, stew them and eat with yogurt, costard (you can get low fat versions) or make crumble using a sugar substitute.

It would not would desire to be excise. in case you're over ingesting because you in easy terms sense like having a snack than do no longer except you're in easy terms somewhat hungry. i'm many times on the pc, at artwork, or putting out with my acquaintances. some situations i will journey my motorbike yet once you in easy terms consistently have some thing to do you will no longer consume except you're hungry. Excise and a nicely balanced nutrition ordinary can help to relying on how wholesome you prefer to be.

For some reason, apples taste better when they're chopped into slices and cored. I think the slight oxidisation changes their taste. Also, much easier to eat too.

You must be eating American apples. They really suck, and they're kind of powdery.

Try the French Royal Gala apples. Very sweet.

Or Japanese Fuji apples (more like watermelon)
