No since the Republicans have censored the American media with gag order through the Patriot Act.. The Internet is the only link to the real truth the Republicans argue as the Liberal Media that doesn't exist. Propaganda machines from the Conservatives to keep the war rolling.

I'm sure there are a few bad apples. Anytime you get 140,000 people in one place you are going to have a few Knuckle heads. There are many stories of how American soldiers have risked their lives for Iraqi's. In the first few weeks of the war, some members of the Iraqi army were using old women as human shields. They knew Americans would avoid shooting women and children. During one of these episodes, an Iraqi soldier threw one of these unfortunate women into a nearby river.
A U.S. Marine than risked his life to jump into the river and save her, while under fire from the Iraqi's on the other side of the shore. It's these stories that for some reason receive little attention in the MSM.

Hummm... Okay so American military don't defend freedom? Good, then we should befriend no nation and protect only our own land. I would like to see that very much.

As for being mean and cruel? They are no more cuel than a government and leaders the kill their own people.

Sorry, but even though I believe the war is wrong and we (as Americans) should leave the Middle East, I have great pride in my country, and great respect for our military.

No, we don't. We only know what has been reported to us by the politicians and the media. We don't trust either one, but where else are we going to get information?

I don't think our soldiers are angels, but I don't think it's in the nature of any soldier to be angelic. They're trained to kill. Our current military is being run by people who see torture as something that is justifiable. So, is it any surprise that those leaders are not going to reprimand behavior that is "cruel" by our soldiers towards the people that they are okay with outright torturing?

If you train your pit bull to attack intruders, you can't be shocked when he bites the mailman..... I think the problem is the leaders and the decisions they are making, not the military guys that are, after all, doing what they were put there to do.

I am not excusing the bad behavior of the soldiers... any that can be convicted of a crime should be. But I think they've been put into a terrible situation without adequate training or leadership.
Bad things are bound to happen in those circumstances.

less than 20% of Americans have a pass ports. It takes hard and sometimes cruel people to fight for right. but i am glad that they are fighting on my side. I don't think the American people want to know what is going on in Iraq because it is a nightmare.

No, Americans DON'T know. All we get in our news media is how many were killed on a particular day, so basically, the bad news.
There are so many things I've heard from soldiers that were THERE that haven't been reported on.
Our military is no more "cruel" than they have to be. When you've got crazy foreigners on one side trying to kill as many Iraqis and American soldiers as possible, and on the other side you've got people who don't have enough sense to stay out of the way when there's fighting going on, I think you'd be accused of "cruelty" as well.
I am MARRIED to a US Army soldier. Most of our friends are US Army, and they're all wonderful, kind people.
And yes, our soldiers ARE defending the freedom of the Iraqi people. There are two problems with that:
1) The Iraqis lived under a dictatorship for so long that they're used to being told what to do. Therefore, they don't see any reason to fight in order to make Iraq a free country.
On a sidenote before I get to number two, this is a normal reaction. It's what's known as "institutionalization". People who serve long sentences in prison often suffer from it.
2) The insurgents are trying to cause chaos, and it's working. Not only that, but the insurgents are NOT loyal to any one country, and they are not uniformed. Therefore, there's no way for a soldier to know whether that person waving at him is being friendly, or if they have a bomb in their other hand.

Sounds to me like you just haven't met very many soldiers. I have. And even though there are bad ones, they're mostly good people, and I would trust them with my life. I already do.

I don't know what's really going on in Iraq and neither does the average American.

The US Department of Defense and the Bush administration controls what we see and hear from Iraq. they don't want another Vietnam where the media was free to report on the war without government interference.

ok well heers how it works, we as americans have 2 choices now adays, either were uncles sams kunta or were hidin from'm

our military is his slaves, good ol uncle sam sends them in to seize and or confiscate anything he sees fit, and i do mean anything... so they are trained to be on they toes out there and to show no mercy... and for the first couple months after they get back they woundup like all hell.... but ya america is slowly falling, between the higher taxs the lower incomes and the highr populations. is the higher crime rate causing poverty to rise, and ultimately a more hostile state of mind
