This condition might be caused by MALTRACKING KNEECAPS. Normally the patella sit and moves within a groove inside the knee. However, if one or other of the muscles that attaches at the bottom of the thigh is too well-developed (or under-developed) then the kneecap can ride out of the groove causing the horrible noise and pain.

Depending on the severity it can be aproblem and cause chronic inflammation and decreased mobility/flexibility.

I suffered from maltracking kneecaps for several of my teenaged years. I visited a physiotherapist aged 17 and was given several exercise to perform. These we intended to strengthen the under-developed muscle in the thighs to prevent the kneecap from rising away from the groove.

It depends which muscles are under-developed. My exercise simply involved standing on one leg at a time and rising up and down slowly and only about 30 degrees. However you had to do this for 30-60 minutes. After several weeks/months my knees clicked far less and I've not had a problem with them for the last ten years.

Hey, i would take glucosamine sulphate. its really good for strengthening all connective tissues. Sounds to me as if it is cartilage problems. i would go easy on any running or anything that puts force from below the foot, for example: swapping the treadmill for a cross trainer at the gym oh and strengthening the all your leg muscles to aid with support. If you start getting pain, i would go to the doctor, they can do keyhole surgery to help it.but it will always be a weakness. If you a rugby player or runner, than this is a stereotypical injury, so just ease up on the sport!

Your joints could need lubing. I know that sounds funny but there are products on the market that are OTC that you can buy for this. Another thing is you could be dehydrated, try drinking more water. It could also be a calcium build up and for that you would need to see your doctor.

Crepitus.

And if it doesnt hurt you then it really isnt a cause for concern.

there really is nothing that will make it go away.

But if you are concerned, talk to a professional: your Doctor, not people on the internet.
