I know it's a big responsibility having a dog but when you work and go to school at the same time it is difficult to take the pet outside every 3 hrs. I guess it's a matter of teaching the pet to go potty in a designated area in the house. I will probably later invest in a toilet seat made speacially for dogs it's really cool. I was reading about it. It's just like out toilet it flushes down and everything. It's about 700.00 dollars though. If anyone has done this please give me some feedback.

Thanks!

Litter training? A German Shepherd?

GS's are very big dogs when they are older and training them to use a litter tray would be really hard, as well as a really bad idea.
Half the fun of having a dog is the fact that you know you are responsible enough to own one.
Getting a large dog LITTER TRAINED is a really stupid idea.
Having a dog is NOT suppose to make your life easier, if anything, no matter what you do, your life will get HARDER. No matter what you train your dog to do (i.e: use a litter tray).

Go take your puppy to your RSPCA or SPCA if you are not willing to take your puppy out EVERY SINGLE 2 hours until it is potty trained.

Also, if you DID litter train your GS, you would have to clean it atleast 3 times a day. For the rest of it's life. Although, this probably won't suit you as you like everything in your life to be EASY.

A litter pan???......for a GSD????

YOU MUST BE JOKING!! No rational person would suggest such a moronic thing

That dog is going to produce as much as you do - why not try it for yourself???

A $700 toilet???? Now we are in the realm of true nuttiness.

If you teach the dog to go in an area of the house, it will always do that.

Do you have the slightest idea how much quantity you are talking about in terms of urine and feces???? Do you have the slightest conception of the stench??? That you will be scrubbing and cleaning and airing the house out every single day when you get home???? That is you live in a rented apartment or house that you will get EVICTED???? and probably cited by the health department???

Contact your breeder and return the puppy - and, no you shouldn't get a refund. Consider it a lesson in decison making - bad decisionmaking.

Yes you can train a German Shepherd to use a liter box but I would recommend it to be big and with a cover for outdoor use. I trained my German Shepherd who is 140 pounds to use it in one day. He turned 8 and he developed hip dysplasia. My poor German Shep could not get up and down the steps for walks. I Love the dog Liter box. It's easy to clean and he is happy now going out to poop. Good Luck and don't listen to any negative responses. German Shepherds are very smart and like I said mine trained to use it in one day.

Having a dog is not suppose to make your life easier.

If you did not want the RESPONSIBILITY of taking your German Shephed outside every 2 hours, then you should not have got the dog.

A GS will get too big to go potty in a small little litter box.

LOL, I've had "Shep's" Great Dogs, really smart too, but, not that smart, you would have a better chance with a poodle, they're scary SMART ! and as "Starrynig" pointed out, that's quite a harvest of "YODELS" that a German Shepard would leave in a litter box, you would be emptying it out 2x a day with a "Clam Rake", LOL !
