what do you think? If he were to train as dedicated and focused like Tito Ortiz does for 6 months. Could he beat matt hughes 2 out of 3 times? BJ Penn's jiu jitsu is vastly superior to any other mma fighters.

i think he would dominate him on the ground

just my opinion

It looks like none of you know. Half way through the second round BJ broke 2 ribs when trying to take Hughs back. It was posted in a articale on Subfighter and Sherdog with hospitol reports.

Lightbiz's ~
You're exactly right. BJ admitted that "He under-trained for this fight" he also said "He didn't want to over train, which I have a bad habit of doing" I think that this is complete nonsense, he was fighting for the Championship of the World does he honestly expect everyone to believe that he would train his butt off for lesser opponents than he would for a World Championship?
In my opinion, he has other options, and when a fighter has other options he's not as focused as he should be. You are absolutely right, if he trained like Tito does for his fights, BJ would be unstoppable, he has so much natural talent it's sick, he has the flexibility of young gymnast.
BJ supposeably comes from money and if this is the case he should stick to living like a star and stop excepting peoples hard earned money when he's not willing to give the fans a 100%.

This is funny. I was in Maui for my honeymoon, at the hardrock cafe. I was wearing my Kempo Jutsu Kai t-tshirt and one of the guys who worked there came over and we starting talking about the arts. At some point he brought up that he trains and surfs with BJ Penn. This conversation was taking place the day of the fight. He told me that BJ was going to lose the fight because he was partying way to hard. That he left for the mainland just the day before and he even had a big party at the beach were he was hammered. So, for some reason BJ took the fight really lightly and it show in his endorance. Hopefully that was a wakeup call as he could possible find himself in much worse shape if he keeps it up.

I am a huge Matt Hughes fan but the first 2 rounds Matt was getting his butt kicked then BJ Penn got tired and Matt won if BJ would have trained like Tito then in my opinion yes BJ would have won the fight.

Of course Penn doesn't train hard enough. He lost the fight due to endurance. He lost to G.St. Pierre before Hughes, but looked much better than he did vs. THE CHAMPION matt hughes. You've gotta be ready to go 5 rounds if you expect to beat any champion.

he needs to go back to his natural weight at 155 pounds. He's packing on a bunch of lard in order to compete at 170 and thats hurting his performances.
