What are second cousins?
I have researched it but its really confusing. Am I right - My mum/dads cousins son/daughter, is my second cousin??

Also, what do i call my cousins cousin? (not my other cousin)...

And if there are two people - H and D.

H's aunty is married to D's uncle. How are they related?

Please answer both as best as u can if u want top answer :)

thanks!

Okay, you have a cousin, and your cousin has kids. Those kids are your second cousins.

H's aunt married to D's uncle -- related only in marriage by blood.

second cousins - are example

X & Y are brothers. They get married and have children. A is X's daughter and B is Y's son. A & B are cousins (first cousins). A gets married and so does B (to different people) and they have children M & N. M is the child of A and N is the child of B - so that makes M&N second cousins.

2nd cousins are you first cousins children. Example: your dads brother is your uncle, is children are your first cousins, thier children will be your 2nd cousins and so on.

as far as h&d it all depends on who h&d are. If h is sandy and her aunt marries d which is Joes uncle than that would make sandy and joe cousins. Sandy and Joe are just examples not real people.

I hope this helps

Second cousins: First, lets imagine two children from the same family. Then they both have kids and grandkids. Their "grandkids" are second cousins to each other.

if cousins have kids then that is where the "removed" notation is used. each generation adds one removal. so if my second cousin himself/herself has grandkids, his/her grandkids are my second cousins twice removed.

Next question..."cousin's cousin"...
that would depend where the relationship is. you probably need an example...

example...my aunt is married to an uncle from another family. The people from his family are unrelated to me except through marriage. But I am cousins with their children. Now my uncle has siblings that have kids. That would be my cousin's cousins.

and...

H and D are unrelated. They and their ancestors dont share a common family.
They are cousin's cousins.

this is from wikipedia.

* If our parents are siblings we are first cousins, and have the same grandparents
* If our grandparents are siblings we are second cousins and have the same great grandparents
* If our great grandparents are siblings we are third cousins and have the same great-great grandparents

* My first cousin's child and I are first cousins once removed to each other (one generation difference between us)
* My first cousin's grandchild and I are first cousins twice removed to each other (two generations difference between us)

Similarly

* My parent's first cousin and I are first cousins once removed to each other (one generation difference between us)
* My grandparent's first cousin and I are first cousins twice removed to each other (two generations difference between us)

* My second cousin's child and I are second cousins once removed to each other (one generation difference between us)
* My second cousin's grandchild and I are second cousins twice removed to each other (two generations difference between us)

Similarly

* My parent's second cousin and I are second cousins once removed to each other (one generation difference between us)
* My grandparent's second cousin and I are second cousins twice removed to each other (two generations difference between us)

Following this pattern, it can be determined that xth cousin y-times removed means either of the following:

* The xth cousin of your direct ancestor y generations previously (eg. your great-grandparent's fifth cousin is your fifth cousin thrice removed); or
* Your xth cousin's direct descendant y generations away (eg. your fifth cousin's great-grandchild is also your fifth cousin thrice removed)
