I have a 12 year old, 6 year old and almost 2 year old all boys. They all go to bed at 8pm Sunday through Thursday. They get to stay up late on Friday and Saturday evenings because the two oldest don't have school. They wake up anywhere from 6am to 7am on school days and on weekends we let them sleep in.

Don't worry about it. As long as they are not dragging the next day they will be fine. I think in the summer 7 pm is a little early to be honest. It's still daylight outside and the other kids are still playing! I say if you want them both to go to bed at the same time, their bed time should be 8:00 pm. If you separate them the oldest should get to stay up until 8:30 and the youngest 7:30.

My 7 year old goes to bed at 9, but doesn't need to be awake until 7:15am. My 10 year old has a 9:30 bed time, and wakes up at the same time as her brother.
As long as they are getting enough sleep, and waking up fine, then the bedtime you have works fine for them.

my daughter is almost 8 now and she is allowed to stay up until 7.30pm but she must be ready for bed before this(in her PJ'S) and then i take her up and we have half an hour together before she has to turn the lights off!
my daughter is not a child who can cope with late night and if she has too many she gets ill very quickly, go with your gut feeling, you know your kids better than any body so keep up the good work if it works for you and don't worry about what anybody else does

They need 12 hours sleep. I'd get them to bed by 7pm if at all possible. You'll be able to gauge how much time they need individually by their attitudes. If they are grumpy, not doing well in school, having a hard time waking up in the morning, these are all signs that they aren't getting enough sleep at night. Kids need to be on a set schedule.

My kids schedule has always been with mine. I have a 5 and 4 year old. They usually go to bed around 9PM and wake up around 7AM. We don't send them to their room until around 9 and they usually fall asleep soon after. They are kids so they will usually do what their bodies tell them to.

my kids bedtime was 7 until they were about 8 then it moved to 8 but they didn't get up that early. I wil tell you I missed out on some social occassions so that my kids would get there rest. They were never sick and rarely grumpy. well worth missing things. May not be popular but it worked for me.
