You don't have to peel carrots, they just taste better peeled. They don't taste that bad with the peels on, but they're really easy to peel so most people do.

You actually don't need to peel them - the peels contain a lot of nutrients. Restaurants peel the carrots to make them look more appealing. The skin of a carrot is not pretty like the skin of an apple. Interesting question!

Mini-peeled carrots are most often labeled as baby carrots but they are not true baby carrots. They are actually a long, thin variety of carrot that is grown close together and bred to ripen faster than other varieties. After being harvested, they are washed and cut into 2-inch pieces. They are then sent through cutters and peelers to shape and polish them to their finished size. Min-peeled carrots have become very popular as a snack, appetizer, and for cooking because of the convenience in not having to cut and peel them before using.

I don't think that you have to peel carrots before eating them. But you should scrub them really well to remove dirt and to remove pesticides (if they are not organic). I have never noticed a bad taste if they aren't peeled. Thinner carrots are more tender and taste better.

No, it is not unsafe to eat the peeling on carrots, however, make sure you wash them good. I don't peel mine, actually the peel is good for you on most any vegetables.

When I was a child growing up on my grandparents farm my cousins and I used to raid Grandma's garden. Usually we would just brush the dirt off of any root vegetables before eating them. If we were particular about getting the dirt off we'd rinse the veggies in the cow trough. I'm on wrong side of fifty now so the dirt apparently hasn't done any harm. I still like my veggies fresh out of the garden, but I will forego the cow trough thank you very much!
