No, if you are just getting a scanner, then it will not use ink. HOWEVER, if it is a scanner/printer or something that prints paper, then it will need ink. It will run on electricity from an outlet.

As for price and stuff, it depends on what you want to use it for and how often. If you just want to scan something every once in a while or just want basic scan functions, just get a cheap one and get it over with. If you plan on using it often or want all kinds of nifty features, go for gold and get something nice.

The basic principle of a scanner is to analyze an image and process it in some way. Image and text capture (optical character recognition or OCR) allow you to save information to a file on your computer. You can then alter or enhance the image, print it out or use it on ur webpages. hwever, its has higher resolution so u got to adjust that with the help of Photoshop 6.0
it doesnt require any kinda ink. its a electronic technology.

Scanners have become an important part of the home office over the last few years. Scanner technology is everywhere and used in many ways:

1] Flatbed scanners, also called desktop scanners, are the most versatile and commonly used scanners. In fact, this article will focus on the technology as it relates to flatbed scanners.
2] Sheet-fed scanners are similar to flatbed scanners except the document is moved and the scan head is immobile. A sheet-fed scanner looks a lot like a small portable printer.
3] Handheld scanners use the same basic technology as a flatbed scanner, but rely on the user to move them instead of a motorized belt. This type of scanner typically does not provide good image quality. However, it can be useful for quickly capturing text.
4] Drum scanners are used by the publishing industry to capture incredibly detailed images. They use a technology called a photomultiplier tube (PMT). In PMT, the document to be scanned is mounted on a glass cylinder. At the center of the cylinder is a sensor that splits light bounced from the document into three beams. Each beam is sent through a color filter into a photomultiplier tube where the light is changed into an electrical signal.

no, they don't need anything but electricity. they use light sensors to create a digital picture from the documents, photos you scan.
most scanners are powered from the outlet, but some get their power directly from the usb port used as a connection to the pc

things you should consider in buying a scanner are the scanner's resolution (the quality of the scanned image - bigger the better, obviously) and the time needed to scan a page

there are multifunctional devices that are scanner/printer/copier in one, if you want to buy one of those you will need ink- not for the scanning, but for the printing.

A scanner does not need ink. It uses electricity like any other computer device.

No unless you are using a scanner printer like some of these new all in one do. They allow to do photocopies. These are the only scanners I know who use ink.

The scanner is like photo copier, except copies do not come out. Instead, the image becomes digital and gets transfered through a cable(USB or serial) to the computer. Once it is in the computer in digital form, you can print it again using a regular printer. Or you can manipulate it using various software(image editing, OCR, etc)

no scanners do not need ink. they have a photo tube that makes them work. they do need electric. the cheapest scanner would be a HP FLAT BED SCANNER.

Yes, they do need ink. It's used to sprinkle all over your documents to give them an 'aged' look. If you want your pages to look as new you should refrain from using any ink in the scanner.
